System lockup... Need Help?!?!?!

My comp keeps locking up for 3-5 secs while I am doing anything besides the comp sitting idle. It happens about every 30min to 45min, and every once in awhile it locks up completely and I have to restart it. It is really a pain and any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

AMD K6-2 400 @ default voltage
Asus P5A motherboard
128 MB of Infineon PC100 RAM
ATI Rage Pro Turbo 8mb AGP
56x Affrey CDrom
Plextor 8x4x32x
Western Digital 10 gig
Diamond SupraMax 56k
Sound Blaster PCI 128

there might be many rewasons, verheating, a program that steals cpu attention, a virus, a trojan horse.....

Yes there can be so many reason.
I once had a similar problem
and it was fixed by changing my video card
I suggest you start from clean install of your OS
then check the hardware.
It will take time, but it's one way to find out the problem.

I already formatted thinking that was the problem... but it wasn't. The video card is the only thing that I have replaced anytime recently, but I don't see why that would be. I will run a virus checker and see if it comes up with anything. If any one has any more ideas please send them my way. Thanks
