system recommendation / build

I was looking at an abit / e6600 / 8800gts combo but not sure what will be best suited to me or what will give me the most bang for buck etc.

Struggling as it's daunting seeing how many options are available now compared to the last time I built a machine a few years ago

I had this in my cart before giving up:

1 x Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804)
1 x BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
1 x WD Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB SATA 10KRPM 16MB Cache - OEM
2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

Uses: Work, development, movies, gaming.

Got an LG 22" 22LS4 thingy on the way btw if that helps with graphics choices at all.

Why settle for an E6600 in a $2000 budget? Am I missing something? You should at least get a Q6600.

It's hard to recommend something knowing that in the UK prices are going to be higher substantially,
but you should be building something alone these lines:

320GB Seagate
Corsair 620HX or 520HX
