Not sure how to troubleshoot this. Few weeks ago I built a PC for one of my kids. Mainly plays minecraft. Its worked fine, he has played the game and its run well. Now, I changed the cpu heatsink and fan to a ARCTIC Alpine 64 GT Rev. 2 CPU Cooler. The stock one that came with the AMD got *very loud* so I changed it to this.
System is an AMD FX-8320 Vishera 8-Core 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+, GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 motherboard, CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM, with an AMD HD Radeon 6900 series 2GB video card.
Used an old case I had laying around. Everything fits fine.
OK, so after I put in heatsink and fan, i fire up the game RUST. I put the panel back on the tower and walk away. I come back, the computer is OFF. I try to start it up, it dies again on bootup and asked me to restore windows. I did, it came back OK. I took side panel of. Started again and played RUST for about 15 minutes. Seemed OK I put side panel on, within a few moments system shuts down.
So now I am thinking something is getting too hot? or the case is weird or has a short somewhere to a component?
I had MSI afterburner running and didnt notice anything too out of ordinary but maybe Im missing something? GPU was about 80 C and CPU was not spinning fan that high from what I remember.
Im fine to buy another case. I hate to take it apart again but I dont want to hose the newer components I bought. Not sure if there is anything else I can do to troubleshoot. Theres no log I am aware of that says "Shut down due to ......." etc.
What do you guys think?
