system starts but screen is messed up

So i was putting a new comp together for the first time.

abit AA8XE mobo
leadtek geforce 6600gt
2gb corsairs ram
p4 3.0 ghz
aspire 520w psu

everything seems to work, system starts and powers up, its just that i can barely make out anything thats on the monitor. picture is really flaky and the text is hard to read.

any advice?
btw, keep in mind this is my first time putting a comp together so i might have missed something.

I would take it apart,

get some coffee filters and 90%+ Isopropyl Alcohol.

gently dampen the coffee filter and clean the conacts of the video card for the AGP slow. also blow into the the Blue VGA adapter on your monitors cable.


if the problem persists. if possible try the Video card in another system. if you dont get this problem with the same Monitor then we know its not the Monitor or the Video card.
