system won't post until video card is reseated

This is an odd issue with a system I recently put together, it'll work fine all day, but when the system is turned off for 2 hours or more, the only way to get a proper post again is by pulling and reseating the video card.

the system consists of the following components:
kds xf-7b (I think)
antec superlanboy case
antec truepower 430
barton 2600+
asus a7n8x-e deluxe
asus 9600xt
corsair 512-3200c2pt
wd1600jd
liteon 811s

So far I've swapped the video card with an exact model (same exact issue) and then tried my 9700pro in it (it worked perfectly)

So far the current plan will be to order either a sapphire or ati 9800pro and test that - but it would be nice to have an explanation of what's up with that 9600xt - everything should have been smooth but that is the only problem.

. Maybe heating/cooling cycle causing the board to edge out of the socket. Try checking the alignment of the mobo and AGP socket to the back panel and card bracket fasteners.
. And make sure the latch that should be at the rear of the AGP socket is engaging properly. Worse to worse, hot glue the sucker into the socket - run a bead of glue right at the top of the socket on both sides...
. Loosen the mobo mount screws and push the mobo toward the rear of the case while retightening - should only be enough room between the mobo and the back panel for the card bracket tips to fit between without much drag. You want as little stress on the cards as possible. Don't be afraid to bend the card bracket a bit to relieve stress if necessary.
. Possible that the mobo standoffs are too tall or some such. Clean the AGP socket contacts and card edge contacts while you're at it. Follow static precautions.

I probably don't have as much specialized knowledge as this guy, but I'm guessing it'd be better to use a low temp glue gun rather than a normal/high temperature gun

Yeah, zig, I have a dual temp glue gun and use low temp for such things - forgot to mention, it was late. Not too hard to peel the glue off for later changes if necessary.

I still find it odd that a different card (my 9700) worked perfectly fine.

It could be something with the seating shifting, amazingly that motherboard dosen't feature a retention clip, or even the additional 12v power connector. I would think those two features would have been quite standard nowadays (abit boards have them, my shuttle an35n ultra has them)

I'm sure the video card change will be desired anyways - the 9600xt was bought locally at a cost of $220 or so, quite a ripoff price wise, but that's what you do when you don't want to even wait for overnight shipping.

Of course considering the video issue and that a different card itself seems to work better, a sapphire 9800pro retail is $241 with overnight shipping - $20 for a card that blows the 9600xt away, i don't think anyone wouldn't do that.

Do you have one of those little plastic pins that holds the card in place? If so make sure it's fully retracted and not getting stuck somewhere.
