escalating already intense competition in the U.S. wireless market.

LOL... it is so intense that most companies before now have bent customers over backwards. Thankfully the AT&T merger didn't go through or rates would be even higher.

But my favorite part is this....

some on Wall Street are concerned they will cause an industry-wide price war.

I mean how dare they! Compete for customers? What the hell is wrong with these companies!

I have been looking at it as well, but:

1. T-Mobile coverage outside of major metro areas is non-existent in a lot of areas.

2. It actually is not cost effective for a lot of users as in order for T-Mobile to pay off your ETF you need to trade in your phone and then turn around and buy a new phone from them. So no contract, but if you leave T-Mobile then you owe whatever may still be due on the purchase of the phone.

3. In my case, it makes more sense to just pay the ETF for my on contract phones with AT&T and then keep the devices and use them on T-Mobile outside of this plan, which I would do if their coverage becomes substantially better. I can save money moving my family plan to T-Mobile on a monthly basis, but their coverage is so poor in many areas where we travel to that it's not worth it at this point.

Not quite the "uncarrier" deal I thought it would be, but at least it's getting AT&T and Verizon nervous to the point that I would imagine is causing them to rethink some of their policies and prices.

T-Mobile coverage is my cities pitiful. It says 4G but I can't even steam LQ YouTube videos without them being unwatchable due to a shit-ton of buffering. I think my data speeds with Verizon 10 years ago were actually faster.

improve 4G coverage first please - I'd be leaving VZW unlimited. T-Mobile is actually cheaper for my use so I'd want to.

I made the switch to T-Mobile from Verizon a few months ago and haven't looked back. Cheaper and my data speeds are actually faster. Verizons network was way overloaded.

You could also have just gotten an AWS Verizon phone...

My wife is selling her Galaxy S4, and put an old Droid in her acount because the Droid is on the list. Then switch to T-Mobile simple plan. If she doesn't like T-Mobile. Turn around and sign with Verizon/ATT again with a subsidized phone. Sounds like a great deal to me.

Apparently, T-Mobile is on a roll and is now offering cash to new subscribers who switch from other carriers. This could create some interesting competition.

Not liking this as it may introduce Chinese phones to the market.

Chinese phone makers like Huawei are linked to the Chinese Communist Party.

The Chinese NSA will be spying on us if Chinese phone makers ever have a 10%+ share in the US smartphone market.

No, it wasn't.

My phone's almost always in T mode, which I'm assuming is Edge or something equivalent. YT videos are completely unwatchable and a page like CNN takes a good 45 seconds to get to where it's readable. It's been like this for both phones I had with them, so I can't blame it on my phone. It might not be as bad at Verizon's original 3g network, but it's unusable for anything unless I have a ton of time to spare.

Yeah, but this is *not* for people who've heard of Swappa and have arranged this sort of thing themselves. (We want the $30 Wal-Mart plan anyway, which isn't lucrative for T-Mo.) It's for everyone else...

I thought T-Mobile was great in New York?

New York city, yes, except for building / underground reception

In NY state, depends. Highways, maybe 2g/3g, sometimes no signal. Certain cities like Albany has LTE.

For the price I'm paying on T-Mobile (at least 20% cheaper than att) , I'm fine with the service/cost ratio

Tmo is great in Nyc. I even get a signal in the subway sometimes. It's annoying to get a call when I am in a tunnel.

i'm just complaining because I used to get at&t signal in the path 33rd station, but not anymore for t-mobile

waiting 5 minutes for the path train to leave, could use data for browsing

yea this would be cool if tmos coverage didnt suck

Don't you live in the middle of no where?

At least in the DC/Northern VA area, their coverage has really improved, to the point where it was easy to jump ship from Verizon.

Lots of borderline thread crapping going on - can anyone get back to the thread stem, i.e, has anyone gotten cash from T-Mobile for switching? If so, how much?

I don't know if anyone here has actually done it, since it's so new, and it's not actually 'cash', but T-Mobile will reimburse your ETFs up to $350 per line (basically all of them), up to 5 lines per family. However you could only do that if you trade-in your old phones and get new T-Mobile phones.

The thread that discusses this in some details is this one:

Also LTE over a lot of Long Island now. I'm out east in Shirley and have LTE all over. Rolled out much quicker than I was expecting.

It takes 8 weeks to receive a pre-paid debit card for switching, so the answer is obviously no one. :whiste:
