Question on how this will affect rebates

Got the service through Amazon and through their rebate condition, I need to have my account active for 180 days. March 19, '06 will mark that date and I just deposited my rebate checks today. If I go ahead and cancel my service, will this have an adverse effect on the rebates? I just want to be sure since I don't want to deal with Amazon or whoever doing a $750 charge back for not fulfilling the 180 days condition.

Thanks in advance and I also posted this question on howardforums.

Another way to opt out is the charge for changing numbers.

I moved from CA to IL and wanted a local number. The rep said, "No charge." Now this was Nov 2005. I didn't go through with it then because there would be no forwarding message on my old number.

After waiting until mid-January, I called again. This time the rep said there would be a $15 charge (?) per line for the change--I have 4 lines. When told about the previous conversation of Nov. 2005, the rep said that the policy changed on Jan 1, 2006. I asked to be transferred to someone to cancel my contract. After telling that rep that if they could unilaterally change our agreement without notice or consent, then I could do the same, and I'm cancelling NOW.

However, they then changed my numbers for free--so I'm not out yet.

p.s. You can shut off all incoming text messaging, I know, I shut my daughter's off after running up a $400 bill. You do it on line for receiving and on the phone for outgoing.

$400!?!?!!!! I can almost hear Homer say, "Why you little..." and commence to choking Bart.

From that point forward for the next several years, I would just all of a sudden say "$400!"

I talked to T-Mobile yesterday (February 10) and after mentioning that "...last month T-Mobile increaased their text messages from $0.05 to $0.10.." and that "...by law if T-Mobile changes any terms in the original contract that I signed, that I have 30 days to cancel my contract/service without any cancellation fees...", I was told that she would check with her supervisor.

She came back on the line and thanked me for letting her know because she told all the other customer service reps about this change. She also said that I have 30 days to cancel my contract (I got her name and rep id just in case). I asked her about porting over my numbers to another provider and she politely said that I should leave my account open, and when my next service provider wants to port over my number they can do so no problem. Then after the number is ported, I can call and cancel my T-Mobile service.

Top notch customer service in my opinion. Now to choose my next provider

BTW, I just extended the contract on one of my lines in my family talk plan about 2 weeks ago because I wanted to upgrade my phone (I got the Samsung T809), and they didn't say anything about paying for the phone in full, so YMMV.

Also, I don't have any kind of text message package with my plan....
