I get charged $0.30 on a monthly average, I guess I can live with that, I really hate text messaging. For $9.99, I would rather have unlimitted mobile to mobile or night minutes after 7 pm or for mobile web services.

Yes, there are many people who do not text message but get unwanted messages. Guess what, there is no way to block text messaging so they're out a cool $1 for every ten unwanted messages. Not a big geal?

Extrapolate that nation wide, and you'll see how cell phone companies are cashing in on text message spam big time. What can be done about that?

mobile web services would be cool. Whose your service provider? Most offer unlimited mobile to mobile. T-mobile will offer it for $6.99 I think on a single plan and with a family plan it's included.

You do realize that you are by no means required to open the text message spam from the company, right? I get about 4 a month from T-Mobile and just delete them, not a charge to be seen on my bill. In fact, I get text messages from friends and, if I don't want to get charges, I just don't open the message, no charge...

So I kinda think that the whole "it's a big scam to rip us all off of our $.05 per message!" bit is, well...silly...

Tmobile doesn't charge you for messages they send you... so your argument of not opening them doesn't really work.. I'm not sure if opening or not has any impact on being charged. I think it doesn't but someone can prove me wrong.

Well I am not sure about T-mobile but for verizon you can call up customer service and ask them to shutdown text messaging and data access. So when people try to send you text messages or pic messages, it will not come through and you will not get charged. I am assuming Tmobile has the same functionality, otherwise I am sure they would have been sued by now by people having to pay when they didnt' ask for the text message.

Well that's new....I just added 1000 txt msgs to my plan like last month and didn't see the option for a Value Plan.

They did originally charge for their messages....then people complained...about, oh, almost two years ago now. That particular charge has stopped, but what I'm referring to are messages from my friends. I get the little sound/image on my phone that a text message is in my inbox, but rather than opening the message, I simply go into the menu and choose to delete all messages and don't ever get charged. Thus, I know the message came, but I never "opened" (viewed) it so don't get billed.

T-Mobile reps have being saying for years that you get charged for someone sending you a message regardless of whether you read it or not and that there is no way you can block text messages or avoid being charged for the privilege of receiving spam.

I talked to them last week and specifically asked 'what if you're being spammed, why are customers going to be charged ¢10 per hit for spam,' and they basically said 'tough...'

It's ¢10 for every unwanted message with T-Mobile, are you sure it's different with other carriers?

Thanks. I hate how it doesn't mention that at all on that page. The CSR knew of it instantly and took off our existing txt message stuff from our plans.
