Hello,

In the coming months, i am going to upgrade to a HTC touch pro 2 with Tmobile, Im planning to try out the insurance plan with it. If my phone gets lost or stolen, what happens ? Do they give you a new phone, a choice of a different phone etc etc ?

I want to know if its worth it from personal experiences..just curious !!

thanks !

If you have a high end phone then it's stupid to not get insurance. Phones like the Touch Pro 2 and others can be dropped/stolen/lost with high frequency. It's not that much a month compared to buying the phone all over again.

My experience says that it really depends on the cost of the insurance vs. your risk exposure. If you are somewhat rough on your hardware/phone, and you have a relatively high exposure to theft, etc., it might be worth it. Weigh that against the monthly premium. If it ism, for example, $10 a month, and I have the phone for two years with no problem, I have wasted $240. What I prefer to do is pay that premium into my own reserve funds and be self-insured. My bottom line is this - such insurance is always profitable for the issuing company or they would not offer it. If it is profitable for them, it could be unprofitable for me. For some, the insurance is wise - for others it is not. Do a cost-benefit analysis.

Not really BS - that's business. Deductibles are standard policies that save the consumer money. I have it on my health insturance, car insurance, etc. Without it, the premiums would be much higher. It is all based on the premise that responsibility for something is usually shared. That is why I never buy extended warranties.

If you buy from best buy you can get their warranty which has a $0 deductible, but doesn't cover lost or stolen items (you have to be able to bring back the phone).

Sprint and Verizon both have deductibles...I actually just found out the hard way my Sprint deductible went up to $100 because I have a smartphone. I'm canceling the policy now...I remember when it used to be $25...sigh.
