I made the switch and the only places that I don't get reception we'll are old buildings such as in any night clubs on Hollywood. Guess it saves me from drunk texting lol.

most of the night clubs have a lot of concrete around them or there is a lot more building upstairs. let me tell you i was on verizon until a bit ago, and thought it was terrible since "exchangeLA" in downtown LA had 0 reception with verizon. at least you sort of get some spotty coverage with t-mobile. if a nightclub is on a high floor (like say avalon in hollywood) most of the carriers work pretty well.

i think in LA at&t is probably the best carrier so if absolutely the best coverage for cheap is what you need, i think aio wireless is probably worth a shot.

Tmo is much better than att with penetration. Unless I am really in the boonies I never have issues. I always carry around a VZW phone from work and in the tri-state area tmo has worked much better for me than even VZW.

except if you count building penetration, lower frequency is better (AT&T's 850mhz 3G penetrates building better than t-mobile's 1700mhz, well at least in my office building)

(which correlates to your better "reach" in boonies - higher frequency, greater distance it covers)

just made the switch from at&t postpaid to t-mobile postpaid.... cheaper and better value, will see ...

I'll live without it for a few hours lol. AT&T is way more expensive when I priced it out.

$30 Walmart plan is unbeatable I agree. But I live in the hillbillies of NC . I'm stuck on evil red.

I picked up a Nexus 4 two months ago and jumped on the $30/mo plan. Even though 100 minutes is a little low, the overage costs (on the order of $2-$4/mo) still make it far cheaper than anything I would have been interested in from Verizon or ATT. I used to be with Verizon (on a family plan with my parents); I find service quality to be comparable in NYC (and better in some ways, as many subway stations have TMobile service, but not Verizon service).

Yea T-mobile is solid in the NYC and the surrounding areas. It's when you get to the outskirts you get deadspots and suhc.
Speed is phenomenal too.

Been with T-Mobile since 2007 simply because they were the least expensive here in the void that cell companies forgot, East Idaho. It wasn't even until 2 years ago that we even got 3G. And it was really crappy 3G. I sometimes got better speed if I switched to AT&T's EDGE network. Plus, once you got 1/4 mile outside of town, EDGE.

Well, I was strongly considering switching about 2 months ago and no matter what I did, I couldn't get into a decent family plan for less than $150/month except for T-Mobile. I have Wi-Fi at home so the data coverage and limits weren't deal killers and I couldn't justify the extra expense for Verizon voice coverage area out in the really back woods or the bigger 3G coverage area of AT&T.

2 weeks later, somebody flipped a switch and suddenly I'm getting LTE coverage. I thought it had to be a joke so I called the store and they confirmed it. Still hesitant, I ran a speed test in my kitchen..... 24mbps. I took advantage of the Nexus 4 deal for $199 and now I feel mildly guilty cuz that's the phone the wife got because I never expected to get LTE here for at least 3-4 years. Verizon is the only other carrier in the area with LTE.

My patience and loyalty finally paid off. The corporate AT&T store is right across the parking lot from the T-Mobile store.and it looks like a ghost town in there. For $120/month I have 4 phones with unlimited minutes, unlimited text and 500MB of data for each after which it gets throttled. My only complaint is the coverage area. You have to make sure you set up your GPS before you hit the outskirts or your screwed because the data is so bad that you get a network error. Spent $20 for a GPS app that stores the 2.4GB map on the phone and problem solved.

Otherwise, they really seem to have it together.

With their rapid growth I expect their coverage to get a lot better. Most of my state is still 2G Aside from Lansing, Grand Rapids and Detroit areas

T-Mobile is amazing. I was just in a store last night.

Like many, I have the $70 a month unlimited, unthrottled, LTE, data, text, and minutes.

- no contracts

- 2.5B of tethering built-in for free - no more dicking around with WiFi Tether for Root Users and User Agent switching

- I had no idea that I could add unlimited data to a tablet for SO CHEAP! If I want 300MB of data with a 300MB cap, it is actually FREE if you already have the $70 a month plan. If you want 500MB of full speed data and then UNLIMITED throttled data it's only $10 a month extra. That's what I did. I use the tablet only for reading and GoogleMaps anyway.

This is exactly what should be happening.

You should be able to tether to your tablet for free. The tablet user agent isnt blocked by their tethering limit.

I've been debating switching to them, I'm a little worried about coverage since I travel a lot and I've heard it can be sketchy at times, especially in buildings. I had a similar problem with AT&T back in the day and wouldn't want to go back to that as it was incredibly frustrating.

I heard the same thing. I switched a month a go. So far no regrets.

Right. But it's just more convenient to get data on the device itself without having to constantly run a tether on another device. For $10 a month, so be it.

But if I want to tether with no limits on my laptop I can just set the user agent to Android Chrome and that should work right?

What about things like FTP transfers from a desktop FTP client?

I had tmo for my business for the past year and a half. They are great if you are in a well covered area. If you aren't then the service is beyond terrible. Wall penetration is poor compared to Att also. If they can improve their coverage a d penetration I will come back. Until then I'm stuck on att

I see some deals on TMobile refill cards. Can you use those? If so, that will shave a few more bucks off the monthly cost.

Thanks.

I just go to RiteAid and pick up a card when I need one. I get 2% back at Amazon.com by doing that. I could just use autopay with Tmobile for convenience too. I guess there are the refill deals, but its already cheap enough and I don't want to get burned on a bad refill card.

I use refill cards myself as well for the $30 plan. I get LTE at work but not at home, which kind of pisses me off because in my town T-Mobile still has a trouble with its HSPA+ network.

I've used Verizon att and t mobile and t mobile is the only carrier that gets solid coverage in my house and I live in NE Ohio. Verizon gets no signal at all, att is really weak around -108dbm while t mobile gets -90 to -100 dbm.

The pricing is the best hands down you can't even best it with the pre paid options. We have 4 lines and my part is only $25 a month for unlimited text, unlimited calling and 500mb of data.

That moto g phone should sell like hot cakes considering it's so cheap and with a couple lines you have a bill under $100 a month easily.

I will say this tho when I drove to Lansing Michigan from Akron Ohio I didn't lose my GPS or data connection at all which really surprised me. Every year the coverage gets better with t mobile

Does the refill card have to labeled for use with certain plans or do all refill cards work? I see a lot of posted deals for various cards (10% off, etc.) but it wasn't clear if all refill cards are compatible for all pre-paid TMO plans.

Thanks.

Pricing, speed, its all great, but coverage not good. Seems like they are not expanding, just bumping the speed. There are spots in Chicago with blazing LTE speeds, but also with Edge or no coverage whatsoever if you run 5 miles out of that spot. There are villages out of Chicago with no coverage whatsoever and its been like that for years.

I think tmo is on the ball wrt to changing trends and are small enough to be nimble. I bought some stock.

I don't believe that's correct. Lower frequency traverses greater distance and has better building penetration. He just said a bunch of crap based on anecdotal evidence. I'm going to guess a T-mobile 1700mhz tower next to your concrete house will be better than a 850mhz AT&T tower 3 miles away. There's a lot of factors to keep in mind.

Anecdotal evidence tells me that I used to work in a concrete bunker which I thought was impenetrable to cell signal. The last 6 months before I quit, cell signal started working, and I was surprised because I usually put my phone on airplane mode or else face a dead battery. I forgot that day and wow... it worked! Does that mean AT&T penetrates better than any other provider, or is it more likely they erected a new tower? I did some poking around and it turns out AT&T setup a new tower across the street. Duh.

I've used T-Mobile $30 plan for I think 2 years now, and I continue to be very pleased with the quality, speed, flexibility and cost of the service. Their HSPA 4G was always decent but LTE is even better. I've only lived in west coast metro areas (LA, seattle), but the coverage has been very good. I even get LTE in the freaking toilet stalls at work.

I've gone through several phones in that time (exhibit, gnex, n4, xperia zl, n5) and they all worked great. I've also been able to tether android tablets to any of my unlocked android phones.

My vzw bill was over $70/mo even with corporate discount, so switching probably saved me $1K over the last 2 years.

Does the T-mo Walmart $30 plan support LTE?

Yes it does and it works great. I got LTE on a reflashed N4, sony xperia ZL and N5. Oh and it even LTE tethered to my 2013 N7 tablet. For freaking $30/mo.
