T-mobile has been very impressive lately. Hopefully they can get more towers up for better coverage.
No complaints from me. (NYC/NNJ area)

I know. I am still surprised they are in last place from the major 4. IMO sprint should be in last. Tmo has the best unlimited plans as their data is actually speedy compared to sprint. Hell, in NYC tmos 4g is faster than my VZW ip5 on lte.

I was getting 8-10mb down 2-3mb up on the iphone 5 on T-mobile. Pretty impressive.
I'd rank them right behind verizon. ATT is no way better than T-mobile.

AT&T is better than T-Mobile because of coverage. Of course it depends on the area but AT&T has superior coverage in GA, AL, and FL where I used it. I was T-Mobile customer for 13 years and I frequently saw 2G EDGE on T-Mobile. Before switching to Straight Talk AT&T, I dual carried T-Mobile and AT&T phones for a month so I could compare.

This. If T-Mobile had AT&T's coverage they would easily be the best carrier of the bunch.

This is something that surprises me as well. TMO and Sprint both have pretty lousy coverage, but TMO's data is far better than Sprint's. On the Exhibit 4G I carried on a Monthly 4G plan for a few months, the low end speeds were still in the 1-4meg range. I've no experience with Sprint's LTE, but their 3G speeds are a joke.

I love T-Mobile, but I fear they would suffer the same as Sprint once they open the iPhone flood gate.

i have always wondered why the old analog standard of audio quality in phones transferred over to digital... i guess our early digital technology merely matched the capability of our old analog stuff.

i would imagine tmo's hd voice sounds like a direct skype-skype call. which would be amazing if all my calls were like that....

ATT has more towers, although I think TMo might be denser in metropolitan areas.
ATT also has better frequency, using the 850mhz range instead of Tmobile's 1.7ghz and 2.1ghz ranges.
Tmo does have better cell tech though. I'd say they clearly beat sprint in all areas, other than Sprint having a roaming agreement with Verizon while Tmobile has been cutting their roaming agreements with ATT at a rapid rate.

T-Mobile's network is more reliable than Sprint's overall, but Sprint's is bigger, and they can boast a larger map with 3G-EVDO than T-Mobile can 4G-HSPA+. Sprint can also boast a larger "voice coverage" map once they factor in all their roaming agreements. T-Mobile couldn't do that if they tried, simply because CDMA is more widespread in the US than GSM.

T-Mobile and Sprint generally both fall back to 2G data when roaming. Unfortunately, T-Mobile often falls back to 2G outside of cities and metro areas, even on their own network.

It depends what works for you, but T-Mobile is really annoying in rural areas. As far as the national 4 go, the only real choices for rural area coverage (especially data!) are AT&T and Verizon.

Same here. I drove through NJ/NY/CT yesterday and T-Mobile's HSPA+ was excellent. Always full bars.

T-Mobile needs to get on the bandwagon for family plans IMO. Their pricing is higher than Verizon for family plans. However, I do like their individual plans.

I thought their family plan was pretty hard to beat. I've got two phones with 1000 min and unlimited text for $64/mo.

I think they have a good family plan. I have 2 phones on there plan, a SGS2 and a SGS3. 1000 minutes, unlimited texting and unlimited data for both (throttled after 5GB each) for 110 bucks a month. And it included free wireless tethering for both phones. In NYC I get 13-23Mbps up and 4-7Mbps down. Pretty damn good IMO. On my job supplied iphone 5 on verizon In the same area as tmobile I am lucky to get 5Mbps up and 1Mbps down on LTE.

Verizon and ATT family plans are total rip-offs. In order to get a decent deal, you need to put at least one lite user in the family plan (grandma?).

Postpaid wise, nothings betas TMO in the USA, especially if you go with value plans.

I checked T-Mobile and to get 3 phones on 4G it would cost me $220 a month. Verizon is $200 for the same plan, though TMo does have more data. It all depends on how many on your plan etc... If TMo had 4G on their 2GB per line they would be more competitive instead of just 3G.

That is strange. How do I get two phones for half that much ($105 after data is included)? Oh that's right, I'm not subsidizing the phone cost anymore.

Nice smartass tone... you don't think I know how that works? I've weighed all options... either way now this has gone way off topic. So who were you before you were banned before?

I've been pretty happy with T-Mobile thus far since switching in Nov 2012. I had the old Sprint "SERO" plan before which I was hesitant to give up since I had unlimited data. But as others have mentioned, their data speeds are pretty abysmal even here in NYC so what was the point of unlimited data if you couldn't use it?

Plus T-Mobile has some nice free perks like "Wifi Calling" that I just found out about which is a free add-on to your plan if your phone supports it. As I understand it it allows free calls (doesn't eat into your plan minutes) as long as you are on Wifi. Unfortunately the Nexus 4 doesn't support this but the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note2 do.

Wish I had switched to T-Mobile earlier.

Wow! Sorry if you read it that way. It seriously wasn't intended. I mean it. Sorry.

I literally paused to think about my question, came up with an answer, and thought it was informative enough to include the answer. When being a smartass I typically put a smiley on it.

And PSS: Feel free to look me up. I've been using this Alias for about 10 years. I don't hide behind my anonymity. I am just sorta new around here.
