T40 Question

Hey guys. I recently got my IBM Thinkpad T40, and just tonight I noticed something peculiar on the machine, and was wondering if anyone knew what it was. To the left of the lefternmost scroll button, which are the two buttons with red coloring next to the center blue (scroll) button, in the crack between the button and the chassis, I noticed a small red object, perhaps a light/laser or maybe some type of prism. I was wondering if anyone else noticed this and what it is, or if it's something that isn't supposed to be there.

This question may sound bizarre, but I was surprised when it caught the corner of my eye. Any ideas?

I actually have seen what you are talking about, Seleur, on a friend's laptop (he's unnecessarily paranoid)...

I have checked the IBM Thinkpad Hardware Maintenance Manual for T40's located here and believe that you are either looking at the top of Mini PCI adapter or the Fan Assembly (as indicated on pages 86 and 91) -- either of which may sport a status LED. However, realistically, it could be a number of things, including a simple LED on the motherboard indicated that power is present. I know I have a similar LED in my desktop that remains on when plugged in and for a few seconds afterwards -- you should try unplugging your laptop and removing the battery, then waiting a minute or two and see if it stays lit.

But I don't think it's a problem and wouldn't worry about it
