btw, voicestream OWNS cingular!

No, Deutsche Telekom owns Voicestream / T-Mobile and Cingular is a joint venture between the wireless divisions of SBC and BellSouth.

Does anyone know if that's the T68 or the T68i? And I'm already a Voicestream customer, think there's any chance of me getting this price? Usually once you're a customer you get screwed on pricing, since they already "have you".

yes, so smart. what makes you think their service is better than cingular's? is that why voicestream/t-mobile will be using cingular towers in the areas they are launching their service?

that's funny, i was talking to the t-mobile rep yesterday, and he was saying oh, yeah cingular they be promising to use $900 million/mo to improve their service/reception in all areas. so i says dude, isn't this GSM 1900? Did you guys build towers next to cingular's or what? so he says oh no, we are using their towers. yep cingular, sucks, that's why AT&T is going to use their towers too in around sept. time (ask any AT&T store rep), cuz you know, they suck so much, and that's what they need cuz you know, according to peeps who know nothing about gsm, t-mobile/voicestream/at&T is so much better whatevers

that's so great. ok i needs my cofffee

i didn't mean it like that. i meant that voicestream is much better than cingular's gsm network.

The T68 will be implemented in this new beginning of Cingular's transistion from its CDMA & TDMA systems to the new universal/global GPRS system which is an upgraded GSM network that has better data downloading/uploading speeds than the first GSM network....damn i just wish i didn't live loserana where people still confuse cordless phones and cells....it'll be years before this network makes its way down to the "market" here....sweet deal anyway...

Common practice, they do the same thing with the phonelines. You wouldn't want each company to have their own tower since they transfer the cost to you as the consumer.

Nice Price! FYI - the same deal is available through GetConnected but since I now see that $50 of the rebate will be coming from the store it may be safer to go with CompUSA than GetConnected.

Actually, I just noticed that Get Connected's price is $250 - $100 rebate, whereas CompUSA is $300 - $150 rebate. If all the rebates come through, then it's even. But $250 is less out the door today... we'll see.

Just got my T68i from AT&T for $120 (no rebates) bc of my corporate discount It's a sweet phone btw - much better than any I've seen in America so far. The only thing that sucks is the ring tones - they're just normal ones (not polyphonic MIDI tones). The bluetooth and IR combo are very nice, and it's really easy to send pics/ringtones to the phone or sync with Outlook or Notes.

Vortix - where are you located???

I was under the impression that the T68 through ATT was only available in Chicago and a few other markets (not east coast).

Anybody know what exactly the difference is between the t68 and the t68i? As far as I know it's only the ability to do some funky kind of multi-media instant messaging which I couldn't care less about... and since I get a discount at CompUSA I should be able to get this cheaper than $150...

The exact same thing is happening, except in reverse, in NY. Cingular just launched GSM here, and they're using voicestreams towers. This is all likely to be a moot point soon anyway, as its looking increasingly likely that Deutsche Telekom (t-mobile) will be selling voicestream to either cingular or At&t. They'd prefer cingular, cause they're the only ones who can pay cash, at&t would have to pay mostly in stock. This is all due to a (minor) 67 Billion dollar debt they've gotten themselves into.

As for the "Voicestream owns Cingular" comment, you should check out the howardforums, people who were miserable with cingular out west seem much happier with voicestream. Not nesecarily because the service is better (they say it is, but I don't really see how it could be), but because of things like amazingly good rate plans (39.99 for 1000 minutes and unlimited weekends), and tech support that actually knows what its talking about, is willing to deal with the customers, and is open 24/7.

I found a great deal, but it only last's until August 5th. It isn't available in my hometown (Palo Alto) or in San Diego, but someone can use it.
Amazon has 2 mail-in rebates off of their $299.99 price for the T68, making the final cost $49.99!

- $50 rebate from Voicestream that expires on 8/31. It requires activation of an account with a service plan of $29.99 or higher.
- $200 dollar rebate from Amazon that expires on 8/05 (Hurry up everyone). It requires activation (sorry current subscribers).

That's an awesome deal for an awesome phone if you ask me.

Here's a link.
