t7100 to t7700

My laptop (x205 s9349) needs a little power boost. Would I notice a good jump in performance going from a t7100 to a t7700? Would I be best suited to spend a lot more and get a t9300 or x9000? The laptop is said to support both or all in between. Is there a better cpu for me?

You would notice a good jump going from a T7100 to a T7700. The jump from a T7700 to a T9300 would be much less dramatic.

If it is cheap, then it is fine. Otherwise, I rather you just stick onto your current laptop config and save the money for a new laptop in the future.

The guy is asking 60$ but I think I can negotiate it down a bit.

Dont know how good it is but amazon is pricing at over 300$.

Good idea on negotiating. Use words like 2 generations old, this is practically worthless to you, you are not going to use this in the future, etc. Try to bring it down to 45-50 bucks, and thats a pretty good deal.

I personally doubt you'd see a performance difference. Save your shekels for a SSD, IMHO, much better, and you can always recycle it into a future machine once you give up on the existing laptop or decide to sell it.

I have a T7500, but I don't particularly recall the T7100's being much slower.

I already have a ssd. I am going for it I think the 600 mhz and 2 more meg cache will show some improvement. Thanx for all the input.

Yea SSD first but since you have that, the extra cache and speed should help a little in some areas.

Well the price and labor was well worth the up grade. went from 4.9 to 5.9 on the windows experience. There was a ton of dust in the fins, was able to clean that out. Put some new thermal compound on it. The idle temps are 10c cooler, having issue with the load temps.

On the old cpu when running intel burn the max was 72-74c, now it races up to 90c. What is safe temp to burn in to? does my laptop have thermal protection? Does this mean a bad seat on the heat sink? Should I redo the thermal compound?

Sometimes the thermal compound takes a while to settle in.

Did you clean the CPU and heatsink properly before putting the compound on?

Another thing I just noticed is the cooling fan does not shut off. It may have been on constantly before just didnt notice with the fins blocked with dust.
