Cheeky git ,as it turned out it wasn't the cpu's fault ,I lowered the multiplier down to x10 but left the FSB at 152MHz & it still froze up ,atm all I know is that its this damn new bios revision thats causing the locks ups.Its happened before but back then I just went back to the old bios ,cant do that now as it needs to support Tbred cpus!.

Hmm,seems to be ok atm.

After I changed then changed back the video support in UT (recently upgraded vid card drivers) ,I also dropped the FSB down a couple MHz ,course if I have fixed it I dont know which fix fixed it

Actually, would be willing to host a UT server at times for us UK TA guys to play on. It would be on a P3-500, but would be a dedicated server (so nobody has 0 ping and no problems of one person having a massive advantage).

I got a 512k/256k connection so it should be a bit better and handle probably 6 players with no big problems.
Can even have stats if you want (I know how you guys just love them)

Just would need a hand with the configuration slightly.

I think I could help you with the config ,I've done a fair bit of reading about it over the last few months!.

Btw I dont think theres that much of an advantage of 0 ping compared to someone less than 100
If you connection reacts the same way as mine (maybe not as you've got ADSL?),then with 256k upload you'll be able to handle 4 people joing in ,either way its better than my connection

Inccidently Phiton is running a UT server 24/7 in the US ,even from here in the UK I get quite a good ping (less than 200).
He doesn't want his IP publicised so if you want to join it PM me or Phiton for the number

Not too fussed where I play UT honestly, I mean public/private servers are all the same to me. I just play it more for fun.... take half-life a bit more seriously (which is a shame as a lot of cheating goes on).

I just need a config for UT really, and if anyone knows how to switch the stats on and run it that is cool also. Hosting isn't a problem in that respect.
Not worried about adding extra packages (such as UTPure, happy to do so).

I want a game now.

I just spent most of a good 6 hours getting my IBM HD that is flakey hooked up and recognized, with permissions (I had to take ownership and manually go in to every folder/file and reset permissions) so that I could FINALLY copy UT to the new HD. *whew* Plus some folders were toast and had to not copy those. What a pain in the arse. :|

So anyway, I now have UT installed again, so Mr. FragBait is back online!!

Err ,btw I havent fully stability tested my new setup yet so 'scuse me if it crashes!
Inccidently I stumbled across why my old setup was locking up at previously stable FSB ,the chipset fan had virtually stopped!

Yeah the UT server is running on my Win2k box

When did you try to join?
Wierd about the ping ,even people from the states get a ping of 200 or lowerer

i tried about noon here - so i guess 5pm your time. ( i assume you are in the uk )
must have had a bad link somewhere along the route, my cable modem typically runs
about 1.8 down and 256 up. Someone else that ive seen on the board was in there already,
but it was like playing with a strobe light - i was fragged 3 times in less than a minute.
i look forward to a game in the future.

Yup, that was me.

I got in, pings were through the roof, then it suddenly went better, and saw that MongoX had left, my ping was back down to 28.


Maybe you need to fiddle with the in/out rates, Mark

I didn't really need to as I know it works with the currnet rate with 2 people coming in,however I've just dropped the client rate from 8000 to 7000 ,this will leave plenty of headroom.

Sometimes I see people joining in & their ping is through the roof & this also seems to put up the ping of the person already in ,even if they had a good rate to start with ,don't know whats going on there .........unless a 3rd person was trying to join from the net.Possible if the 2nd PC here on the LAN hasn't joined in.
