I am totally new to the whole "Tablet" market, I would however make great use out of any tablet which has the below functions:

1) full PDF compatability, aka Ability to read OCR, Highlight, Show Notes (and allow editing)

2) Massive support for all Ebook types (I have a lot and would mainly use this device to view/edit them, but I need the aforementioned items to make full utilization - pdf/epub/pub/etc..)

3) casual web browsing with full support for all the same things one would do on a desktop/laptop web browser (flash, pdf view integration, java, etc..)

Anyone do similar functions and have a good recommendation?

Do you have any budget constraints or any particular committment to android vs. ios?

If you can afford it, and you like iOS, I'd pick up an ipad air 2 w/ > 16GB of storage. That is ~$600 right now, which is fairly steep, but it is excellent all-around.

If you're looking for something a little less expensive, you don't need bleeding edge performance, and you like android, I'm quite fond of last year's Nexus 7. It's ~$250 for the 32 GB model, and it is slightly more compact/portable at 7'' w/o giving up a very high quality panel.

I have played with both iOS and android, I prefer android. I tested both IPads and Samsung tablets and due to my eye sight I would prefer a 10" version, the biggest question though is whether tablets on the market today support the full ebook functionality I would mainly use it for, otherwise the purchase is not validated.

People I have spoken too that have these devices cannot vouch for my ebook requirements because they do not use their tablets in that capacity. They have told me however that they are great at candy crush and browsing the web/checking e-mail.

Out of the box, ibooks on the ipad supports both epub and pdf, and ibooks uses epub + DRM for books that you download through ibooks.

The kindle app is also available on both platforms, and I believe it supports both epub and pdf also, as well as Amazon's proprietary format.

Are you thinking of any specific PDF editing software? See what versions they offer (Android, iOS, Windows?)

A MS Surface Pro would let you run real Windows apps, though desktop app use without attaching a keyboard - mouse can be painful.

I currently use Adobe Acrobat X and have PDF's with numerous Highlights and inserted notes (textboxes) I want to be able to still view and manipulate these items on a tablet device. I hope that the additional features I make use of are transferable into a tablet interface and also hopefully across PDF readers/editors... (b/c I am thinking of checking out the product PDF Xchange viewer, but I am uncertain if my existing adobe edits will carry over...)
