Tablets for reading comic books

Long time comic book reader but a TOTAL NOOB to tablets.

I'd like to pick up a tablet for comic book reading only. I MIGHT download an app or two, but 90+% of my usage will be for comics.

I've heard comics look so much better on the new Ipad but I was wondering about the Samsung Galaxy. There is a $120 price difference between the two and I'm just wondering if the $120 is worth it?

Thanks!

look into the new google nexus 7. 199 and much better than the samsung galaxy tab. or the ipad if you want a bigger/better screen, but that's less portable and $300 more.

I find 10" tablets too large to comfortably hold for reading whereas 7" tablets are the same size as a book page making quite nice. With that in consideration, the Nexus 7 is the ideal tablet for reading.

As for 10" tablets, there's only the Transformer Infinity and the New iPad which would have the very high resolution screens.

Book pages might be 7" but comic book pages are larger, at least I think they are.

I have a kindle fire that I read comics on all the time, I don't care for the size, as you have to zoom the page too much (and don't bother with the older 90s Images, not just cause they're Image but the two page splash). I'm going to be picking up a larger tablet this fall. I'm hoping by then the weight will be better (lighter) and my choice of which OS will be expanded.

I would recommend HP Touchpad. You can pick used on Craigslist or Ebay for ~$150 or less. WebOS has very nice comic book app reader and the battery life while running WebOS is great. If you're bored you can also install CM9 and dual boot into Android which will give you even more options.

Whatever anyone says in here there's only two tablets to recommend if you're serious about comic books / graphic novels: 3rd gen iPad or an ASUS Prime Infinity.

Any other tablet with a resolution from 1024x600 to 1280x800 (and 7-10" screen) just isn't going to feel like a great investment if you love comics.

Actually, at the moment the Nook Tablet is the best for this purpose.

A lot of classic collections/graphic novels are only available on the Nook store, and though you can read/manually zoom them in the Nook app for Android tablets (not sure about iPad, but I'd guess this works too), only the native Nook reader lets you use the auto-panel-zoom mode. This is supposed to come to the regular app at some point, but until then it makes a difference.

I belive Comixology lets you use all zoom modes on all content, but that's only single comics.

3rd gen iPad. If the difference is only $120 between that and your 2nd choice, then $120 is a trivial difference for the best quality.

I'm a huge comic fan (heck, I used to ink comic books) and I just can't stand scrolling around on a 7" screen vs. the comfort of a nice high-res 10" screen. And nothing I've personally seen beats the 3G iPad for anywhere near a 'bargain' price in comparison. (No idea about the touchpad, have never used one).

I have a Nook Tablet and I can barely stand to read comics on it. If held portrait, then landscape panels are a PITA and if held landscape then portrait panels are. You end up scrolling more than reading, and lose the overall feel of the entire page completely. And these days, I'd think someone would have to be certifiable to buy an NT or KF vs. the Nexus 7.

Comixology sell collections and GN. It's also what 90% of the publishers are now using, cause we learned so much from our Diamond monopoly that we wanted to recreate it online.

If you're into anime you might want to check out SManga as well, I prefer a larger screen for comics since you can read all the small text without zooming everywhere.

My vote would be one of the ASUS Transformer's (Pad, Prime, Infinity) or the Nexus 7. Can't really go wrong with the nVidia Tegra 3. If you're concerned with memory space though, definitely go with one of the ASUS's. You have expandable memory plus you can get a USB adapter that you can connect an external HDD to. I personally have the Transformer Prime and love it, but have not been able to read comics on it yet. Still trying to organize all my comics on ComicRack so I can just read them over Wifi on my tablet.
