Seriously, the stuff at Rubios is great! I always try to eat there when I visit relatives in San Diego.

Other tacos I like are from hole-in-wall Mexican restaurants. Steak, carne asada, carnitas, al-pastor... with some cilantro... I'm hungry now.

Strangely Jack in the Box regular (not jumbo) tacos are pretty good. Not really as tacos, but as just "nacho-like" snacks.

Taco Bell crunchy tacos are somewhere below these, but still very edible.

I have loved those jack in the box tacos also, I grew up in Orange county till i was 12 then moved back east NH and there are no taco joints there at least 10 years ago no taco bell or jack in the box. Back West now so no worries I live 1/2 a mile from Super bowl sunday stadium.

Man, back in my college days (shoot, about 12 years ago now ) we ate there all the time. Almost all the menu items were either 59 79 or 99 cent. So good late night after the bars closed...mmm....

These days I still go once in a while, but I'll get one bad item and one "good" item, like something fresca style to make myself feel better.

Quite true! I love tacos of almost any kind, and TB aren't bad at all -- particularly the hard shell: I've never eaten them slowly enough that they've had a chance to turn soft.

I didn't see anything at TacoBell.com suggesting this is a national event. Most TB's are franchise operations, and I suspect the OP's area's franchiser is having their own special. [Note: Pepsico (wasn't it?) sold TB (etc.)... to "Yum! Brands" (=KFC +Pizza Hut +Taco Bell +Long John Silver's -- 80% franchises/20% corporate stores)... wotta name!]

OMG fresh corn tortillas are awesome! I just had some tonight at a nearby hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant.

My favorite tacos are like this: seasoned steak chunks, chopped onions, cilantro in two soft fresh corn tortillas, served with really spicy salsa. Now that's a real taco!
