Tactical vs. run & gun

It seems like many games are being released as tactical games. Do you like this? Do you prefer it over run & gun?

I think I lean towards run & gun myself. I don't mind the tactical style games once in awhile, but give me a run & gun game and I find that more fun.

I like a mix of the two with the focus on run and gun. Tactical games like Rainbow Six are way to slow and realistic for me enjoy, and most straight run and gun shooters bore me after awhile.

To each their own, but I'm more of a R&G player.

I don't care for hardcore tactical FPS like the Rainbow 6 series. However, I do enjoy games that have a tactical feel to them, like the original Call of Duty and its expansion pack. The game type largely depends on the server you play on, and you can find either type.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for suggesting that COD has tactical gameplay, but compared to games like Quake or UT2004, it does.

I find in COD4, slowly sneaking around I get more kills per death, but while rushing I get more kills per round. Bandolier perk doesnt work much for you if you rush.

I like games where you can mix the two; BF2 for instance, you can climb to the top of the highest building and snipe all round long, or you can jeep-jihad and go on nade spamming runs.

Tactical. 100%. OpFlash, Rainbow 6 series, SWAT games, I love them. Games where you are just as easy to kill as the enemy is.

I did the demo truck thing, LOL Killed 8 guys once in karkand at round begining.

A mixture of both is best but I lean towards run and gun just because I lack the patience to play a true tactical game. I just wanna run in and blow some shit up and shoot dudes.

OFP is still my favorite, so I guess that means tactical.

I guess I prefer tactical, but run 'n gun is great. CoD4 is definitely more fun on a Hardcore server with only 18 or so people. You have to look around corners and be...tactical...with your team. I also like Crysis' options of how to approach a situation - I guess I consider that tactical in a way. I prefer to sneak around and take out bad guys silently one by one, but I can Rambo it with the best of them.

Well what are some examples of a true 'run & gun' game? I think most of the games I play are somewhat tactical, but then it is possible I have not really tried a true tactical game to know the difference.

Tactical. I love scouting a base/area out for an hour, then trying to go in undetected. Swat 4, Rainbow 6, even Crysis and Stalker are great.

Serious Sam, is the first and just about only pure "run and gun" game I can think of unless you count Serious Same II that is..

Between the extremes of both I'll take run and gun, but a mix is always best. Far Cry and STALKER, for example.

Yeah really. But as for more modern titles, Painkiller is a classic as well. Kind of like serious sam but minus the silly bomb headed mean and plus giant skeleton demon bikers with shotguns and fireballs. I may be mixing up several monsters but that's because there's a shitload in PK.

Many games? What are these? The only tactical games I can think of are Rainbow Six related or OFP/ArmA. There hasn't been a decent R6 game in a while and ArmA flopped.

Are you talking about modern combat vs sci-fi crap?

I like a combination of the two. Far Cry was about the best for me in that regard. I could stay back and snipe at times, but then other times get up close and bloody. I don't like all tactical though; can't stand sneaking around for too long.

Many games? What are these? The only tactical games I can think of are Rainbow Six related or OFP/ArmA. There hasn't been a decent R6 game in a while and ArmA flopped.

no...i'm talking about games like BF2, CoD4, etc. i think you're talking about simulations
