If I have that kind of money, I'd rather buy a Rolex than a Tag Heuer because the re-sell value of a Rolex would be higher.

I'd be very weary of buying a high end watch online. And then you'd have to pay to get it fitted afterwards, I'd assume.

For real. Gotta have a new watch for each day of the week.

I mean, in the grand scheme of things, what's a couple of grand get you? A brand new sandy-bridge desktop with a GTX 580 and SSD... or a little thing that can tell you what time it is. Pretty easy to see the watch is the better deal.

I buy high end watches all the time from the Watchuseek & Timezone forums. Ive been doing it for years & have never had a problem. Save a ton of money to boot as well.

Plus they're being sold by Amazon so you've got recourse against a very solvent seller that will still be around next year. Amazon is not an authorized Tag seller so you don't get the official Tag warranty, but you do get Amazon's own two-year watch warranty.

All that being said, the price doesn't look all that great compared to other online sellers.

Note for everyone considering a purchase of any of the Tag watches that are referred to as "automatics"; those watches feature mechanical movements. Aside from the fact that watches with mechanical movements will stop if not placed on a watch winder or worn daily, watches with mechanical movements require service every few years and that service will be: (1) not covered by warranty and (2) very expensive.

That's not to say you shouldn't consider an automatic watch, since a fine mechanical movement is the heart of what makes a fine watch special, you should just be prepared for the drawbacks.

By servicing, are you referring to regulating? If so, that is hardly expensive. I just had my Oris regulated as part of some other servicing, overall it cost me about $60.

No. I'd never heard of "regulating" before, but judging only by my google search, it appears to be something peculiar to Oris watches and merely involves removing the back of the case and adjusting a microscrew.

Full servicing of a mechanical watch involves dissassembly of the entire movement, cleaning and lubrication of the parts and then reassembly. A good movement should not require that type of service more than every four to five years, but it will be needed eventually and will run at least several hundred dollars for a Tag and into the thousands for most higher end brands.

Also, if you're actually going to dive with a water-resistant watch such as the Tag Carrrera Chrono above, I would strongly recommend having the water integrity checked by an authorized servicer every year.

Hey, thanks. I'd never heard of regulating before and I thought I knew a lot about watches. It seems that many watch movements (presumably those that are not free-sprung) can be regulated. In any event, regulating appears to be a very simple servicing task and nothing like the complete servicing a mechanical movement will require every 4-5 years.
