Hey Darn & Hopster
This is for you
wviperw's Duron Overclocking Test
Fanon's comment on wvperw's test: Hmm. One thing I noticed was the voltage wasn't set above default (1.5 in this case) until 850MHz. Don't know is they were using a 600, 650 or 700. At 900MHz the voltage is only up to 1.6.
Mikewarrior2(Platinum Member) & DaddyG(Golden Member ) has been pimping the Taisol way before I was.
According to them,
DaddyG: I been pimping it(Taisol 933) for weeks. Taisol is certainly not the 'best' but at the price, the performance is oustanding. (Taisol with PCTC about the same as a tube of Arctic Silver).
Mikewarrior2: Oh Yeah, I pimped Taisol heatsinks for p3s. Seriously though, i have not been impressed by a sub $15 heatsink until I tried one of these. The gorb/gorb children never really impressed me that much. They looked cool, and cooled adequately, but they don't cool like the taisol does. Anand's and Sharky's(SharkyExtreme.com) AMD T-bird 1.2GHZ also use the taisol heatsink. Looks like Taisol was a bit conservative when rating their heatsink. It is the one used in the review setups.
In my own little impromptu comparison, between a gorb/pal6035/taisol unit, i got the following results.
Ambient temp was kept at 29.1C during all tests.
MB used was a CUSL2, Bios 1003.1. Temp program was mbm5 beta 3, with cusl2 compensation. CPU speed was 650E@866 1.7 volts.
gorb: 48C
taisol: 45C
Pal6035: 44C
The taisol unit performs very, very well for the price. It can be purchased for under $12, yet performs fairly close to a pal6035. But remember to modify the clip, otherwise you'll encounter major problems.(This apply to P3, not AMD) Another note, it fits in a cusl2 perfectly(which can't be said for the orb, which is a huge pain to get mounted).
A new, very nice, very inexpensive alternative to the GORbs.
