As a cheap, but rather powerful alternative to the gorbs, the taisol CEK733092 is one awesome little solution. I got mine for $13 at a local store, but you can get it for even cheaper straight from taisol. The only NECESSARY modification is that the clip must be loosened. I got the idea to try out this heatsink from Nevin...

In my own little impromptu comparison, between a gorb/pal6035/taisol unit, i got the following results.

Ambient temp was kept at 29.1C during all tests.
MB used was a CUSL2, Bios 1003.1. Temp program was mbm5 beta 3, with cusl2 compensation. CPU speed was 650E@866 1.7 volts.

gorb: 48C
taisol: 45C
Pal6035: 44C

The taisol unit performs very, very well for the price. It can be purchased for under $12, yet performs fairly close to a pal6035. But remember to modify the clip, otherwise you'll encounter major problems. Another note, it fits in a cusl2 perfectly(which can't be said for the orb, which is a huge pain to get mounted).

A new, very nice, very inexpensive alternative to the GORbs.

The Taisol is great, note using mine on a MSI K7T PRO socket A board, but guess it would do well on a P3 being Thunderbirds get a lot hotter then Pentium three`s.

Mikewarrior2,

Did you use a copper spacer or anything so the heatsink wouldn't tilt?

No, but I also don't have a problem with this heatsink tilting... I find the pressure point on the clip to be in the perfect spot to prevent tilting.

That's cool. Would you happen to have an idea of how tall the taisol is compared to the pal6035? If I get one, it will be on a P3V4X and MSI slocket and I don't want to block all my dimm slots. It looks shorter from the pictures but I'd rather hear it from someone that knows for sure.
Do you know what size of fan is on the Taisol?

Thanks.

the fan is a 60x10mm fan... really small, fairly powerful for the size, and extremely quiet.

i'll give it a measure in a few minutes to see how big it is...

I didn't pull it out, but it is roughly 1.5-1.75 inches in height(or roughly 60-70mm...

It is definately shorter than a pal6035, sine the pal is 65mm for the heatsink, plus about 5mm for the spacers, then 20mm for the fan.

Mikewarrior - Can you elaborate on what specific modification the clip requires? Is it just a simple bending to loosen it a bit or something more?

yeah, the modification is to loosen the clip(durons sit a tad lower, and require more heatsink clip pressure)... I don't know the exact measurement to loosen it, but I tested out the heatsink on my chip on a slotket(didn't want to accidentally break the tab on my mb).

I'd say loosen it roughly 1/4inch, and test it out.. then loosen it more or tighten it back depending on how well it fits.

MikeWarrior was the PAL6035 you compared the TaiSol to running the Delta Fan or the YS Tech.

Mm.. I'm curious as how the TaiSol would compare to the YS Tech fan.

If it performs similar to the Delta fan, then it would appear to perform better than the YS Tech, which runs at a slower rpm (4800CFM) than the Delta.

MikeWarrior because the TaiSol uses a Delta fan, am I correct to assume there is a much higher decibel level with the TaiSol when compared to the YS Tech? i.e which is louder?

Thanks for answering my questions.

The Delta fan on this heatsink is not the 38CFM model....it is a very thin 10mm Delta fan......and is VERY quiet.....

Fun Guy, that's what I want to know. I'm probably gonna try it, not like I'm gonna crush anything.
