Hey guys,

Just wanted to get some input from you guys. Do you think the 760092 is really worth the money? Does anyone here know how much of a performance gain there is? I saw a couple reviews online, but none of them compared these two coolers.

I'm currently running a smaller taisol (forgot the model number) on my 800 tbird. I'm not overclocking, but I may eventually. I'm mainly looking for a new heatsink because my old gorb ripped off my center prong, and my epoxy fix recently broke off after about 9 months.

Well I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions from you guys. Thanks in advance.

I just upgraded my 742 for a 760 on my overclocked system...

I got almost the EXACT same temps....

I am now adding fans to the 760 to make it run cooler because I already have it.

If I had it to do over again....I would have stayed with the 742.

I hope this helps...

The ard|OCP review also shows that there is NO temp difference with the newer Taisol... and it costs $15 more

Hardware Addicted,

Is that with a socket-thermistor setup? If so, yeah, there is no difference. With internal diode readinsg(both types) there is a significant difference.

Pay,

That's what you get when you have very subpar testing methods. Socket-thermsitors cannot accurate guage heatsink differences well at all, and are subject to heatsinks that can "effect" socket-thermsitor reading temps and not actual cpu temp.

So the 760 does do a better job then the 742, when you measure acuaretly? I would have to think it would, i mean it has a copper plate, that should at least make a little differance.

I would think it should provide a little better performance because of the copper. I ordered one for my new system, so I hope it cools well. I was thinking that since it has a copper bottom, that on boot, it will transfer the initial heat faster and maybe allow you to boot at a faster speed. Then the alluminum will take over to dispel the heat, since aluminum is supposed to be better at releasing heat then copper.

thanks for the info guys...

Does anyone know of any reviews that show the performance gains of the 760092?

I may just opt for the cheaper 742092 if the gains aren't that great.

Yes I am sorry to say...I just haven't had the time or $$ to get a better way to test this.

I figured that even if it's not "correct", it should still get me a baseline to go by.

I guess from your post that this may not be the best way to go about this.

Is there a better way for those of us that don't want to spend $$ on test equipment just for this one purpose???

Thx Mike

HardwareAddicted,

The problem is that socket-thermistors can compress readings greatly, so that 2-3C changes show up as nothing. I've even see 5-6C changes turn into nothing.

An alternative is to use an external thermistor, but then placement becomes the main issue, and while the readings are more accurate, they aren't needed for the end user. Its just htat big websites should not rely on socket-thermsitors to compare heatsinks, because they simply can't do it effectively.

Mike,

I was just wondering if you had any personal experience with these two coolers? I know that the 760092 SHOULD perform much better, but I'm just looking for some hard facts to justify spending and extra 20 bucks. Thanks

Well the 760 is keeping my Duron 850 at 35c in general windows use. When Im playing Tribes 2 it only gets up to 40c. This is with Arctic Silver II and on an Iwill KK266-R. And I know the readings arent really correct, but hey, atleast it gives an indication

I just switched out the slim-line Delta fan that comes with the heatsink for a 60mm YSTech that I got with my old GlobalWin heatsink. After an hour of Tribes 2 my temps. dont exceed 36...while idle in windows is 31c Thats a 2-3c drop for both just in switching in a bigger fan. I love it!
