These media burn great at 8x if you have an 8x burner
and 16x as well with a 16x burner
The only way to find out is to experiment with it. If their is any distinctive line in the media such as when it change speed from 4x to 6x to 8x to 12x to 16x etc then it is a bad burn and the disc will most likely be unreadable after burned.

That is it's a shade of different colors like a line around the disc, or a small ring that is darker then others then the burn is considered a coaster. Please test it with nero dvd/cd speed to verify readability otherwise you could end up losing all the data on your hd due to bad backup. Always look at the disc after burned, if they are all colored even then it is a good burn. An unburned dvd is darked then a burned so that's how you can tell. burning disc makes it a little discolored.

Taiyo Yuden 100 pack 4x DVD-R ? Media code TYG01

Well, I've burned through about half of my 200-disk order now, and just ordered 200 more.

I'm burning on two different Pioneer DVR-108 burners - both with modified firmware. I CAN burn these disks at 12x - but that makes me nervous for consistent quality (without having to check each disk completely after every burn). I just burned a few at 12x to see if it could be done. No coasters and no problems seen with these disks, but that speed just seems too risky to me.

I have burned approximately 40 disks at 8x and 60 disks at 4x. I've had no problems with any of the disks at these speeds. For complete worry free burning, I burn at 4x (I even do that with 8x rated media). The extra couple of minutes burn time isn?t a problem and the assured good result is the most important to me.

The 10% discount code (something like the name of this month and how many fingers and thumbs most of us have on two hands) works still. - with free shipping to boot. I?ll report back on the media code of the batch I just ordered. The TYG01?s were great but I wouldn?t mind getting the TYG02?s to try.

Much better "Deal" than OPs
A lot of talk regarding "Sonic" brand "so called Taiyo TYG02 code" printable DVD. No, they are not Taiyo; yes, they usually get a good burn, but how long will this Sonic brand last? Don't risk your important data with it.
Link to Rima, they have repution sell autthentic branded media. Pay a little more, sleep better.

Taiyo Yuden 100 pack 4x DVD-R ? Media code TYG01

Today, I received my second order of 200 Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R media. I checked the media code on some of the disks from both 100 packs, and the media code is the same as the last 200 I received - TYG01. I'm a happy camper.

funny, i wonder how many people buying these has ever read the threads at cdfreaks.com so they have some idea of why anyone likes TY discs, basically there are a lot of "good" media, TY are one of them, and they aren't the holy grail, there is still variation between batches and within batches of discs

if you go there (cdfreaks), don't stay long, its hopeless, you're probably better off just following the herd of sheep and buying 100 packs of hot deals media, hence you are smart to avoid reading anything at cdfreaks, congrats to anyone who has already got in on this

but actually, I'm looking at rima.com, 9.8 reseller rating, thats nice. The prices for high-quality DVD and CD media are reasonable. I think I found a new merchant, thanks brucekatz

I'll admit to being confused by your statements so I can't address them.

I read media info on cdFreaks, VideoHelp.com and other such sites. Genuine Taiyo Yuden DVD media are about the best DVD media you can get and are considered a "standard" when comparing other DVD media. TY is known for their consistent good quality and you would be hard pressed to find better.

That being said, because TY is considered by many in-the-know to be top quality, there are also a bunch of counterfeit Taiyo Yuden (and other brands) that have flooded the market (like anything else good). If you get a hold of TY seconds or counterfeits, then you probably won't be too thrilled with TY media.

My advice is to buy from reputable dealers - Like Shop4Tech. I sincerely doubt you are going to be able to buy genuine Taiyo Yuden media at much more of a discount - particularly off eBay. YMMV.

BTW, I also buy Ritek, Verbatim (and sometimes Memorex) DVD media as well. Buy what works best for you. I do.
