This remote is HOT! I have one!

It will learn ANY remote and has hundreds of codes built in. I have had several expensive universal remotes and this is one of the best. (Sony Commander is nice too!).

It also does Macros, hooks to your PC for extra programming features, and has lets you mix and match devices.

Thumbs up for a good remote.

(Caution they are not waterproof! - My last one went in the tub of water from my 20 month old son - Oh well)

This isn't just any remote...this is THE remote. This is meant to replace all 10 of your RC's for your entertainment center/appliances/whatever. Since you must only have a B&W TV with a rotary tuner that you turn with a pair of vice grips, you probably wouldn't be interested.

This remote rivals the SONY AV-2100 (which I proudly own). It's maybe even better since it's more ergonomic (the SONY is a tabletop remote).

I guess you haven't shopped for a quality remote that can control all of your toys. I've got the Sony RM-AV2100 that my wife gave me for Christmas (she paid $179 at Circuit City :Q ) and I love it! The Harman/Kardon Take Control sounds even better with the PC programming interface. Check out the review Take Control . Most definitely a hot deal for $100 considering it cost $350. This is something that you and your family will use every day! My wife and kids would be lost trying to use my home theater setup without my Sony remote. Check out the review Sony

can this do satellite tv w/ TIVO as well?

This could save me from using 4 different remotes.

If you have a PalmOS device, just buy OmniRemote. . .been working great for me on all my handhelds (IIIxe, Vx, Visor Dlx).

Don't you also need a receiver of some sort (perhaps an IR receiver) for the remote to work with a PC?

This remote only sucks when compared to a Phillips pronto, but then I don't think you can find a pronto for $97.

It connects to your PC via serial cable. However, there have been complaints about this remote regarding dim backlit display as well as IR range issues. But at $97, it is a good deal. HK has discontinued this model and M$ will no longer be supporting the software either.

This remote has tha capability to learn any IR codes that are out there....it is a learning remote. It can control your Xbox, you need to have the Xbox remote control and the reciever.....but It can learn the controls very easily.

Check out the review on remotecontrol.com

Linkified!

Other than that, this thing is pretty cool. My buddy has one, and he loves it. I have a pronto that I got for christmas, and I don't think I could ever use any other remote! I highly recommend buying a GUI based learning remote, they kick some serious ass! If you really wanted to, you could program this thing to control anything that is IR controled. Get it...it's cool as hell!

read the reviews!

hey ieee,
do you seriously think microsoft actually made that remote...outside of it being black and green...its strangely familiar to your typical RCA remote...the reason being because it's an RCA remote rebadged...my friend bought the xbox to get a progressive scan dvd player (which unfortunately ain't the case) and he already had a standalone RCA dvd player...everytime time he turned on his dvd player and play movies, his xbox would also start trying to play whatever was in it as well...

I checked this deal out both at OneCall and HarmanKardan. I saved about $10 at the HarmanKardan site because it was $3 cheaper and they didn't charge state sales tax. Sounds like this could be the only remote I'll need!

Man... I've really been wanting a good remote... one that's a fun guy's toy, too... programmable via computer, etc.

But I think I'm with JamesQ... I've used a Pronto ( a friend's), and I don't think I could ever use anything else. They are SO perfect... except that they're big and expensive. But other than that, they rock.

I think it all comes down to being able to set up the touch screen exactly the way I want it, and this remote doesn't let you do that. Sure, it can turn on your DVD player... but with a pre-made round or square "DVD" button.

I want to load in a gif of the "DVD" symbol, and assign the command to it. And I want the CNN, ESPN, FOX logos to go to those channels.... arrrgghh... but that's why Pronto's cost alot more than $100. But for anyone who hasn't used one... you have to try one...

onecall had the pronto 2mb version on sale, a refurb version for $165, the thing rocks. remotecentral.com has all the ccf files needed to build your own custoimized interface for the pronto. Before you make a purchase at least take the time ot chek out what this thing can do. I htink the extra $70 is worth it in the long run...

I use the 8-in-1 remote from our beloved X-10. I use it to control TiVo as well as my VCR, CD/Tape/Tuner combo unit, ActiveHome macros, lights, fans, coffee maker, etc. Only $24.99. Only problem, initially, is that I had to remember which buttons did what

As for the OmniRemote, the IR signal from the palm is just too weak to be practical. It does work great, however. It is very easy to program and use. For the price of a Pronto or TakeControl you could practically buy a Palm or Visor plus the Module and Software.

good remote, but hampered by an incredibly bad backlight (to the point many user modify the unit) and a lag on the scrollbar. Microsoft sucks ass stopping support of this product. its like they wanted it to fail.
