Always. I don't believe in divorce.

Most men don't.

But women see it as an opportunity to "take him for all he's worth"

sorry bud, you don't have a choice in the matter. I can see it now..

Why wear a seatbelt if you aren't planning on getting into a crash?

And how is "I don't believe in divorce" relevant to my question?

Don't live together then either. In canada anyway common-law marriages are just as legally binding as real ones. You're still entitled to 1/2 the assets acquired during the "marriage".

Divorces don't happen by accident.

I know it sounds naive, but I knew what I was marrying into. Hell, we were together 7 years first. No prenup and satisfied with the decision. We're both financially even, have a joint and our individual accounts.

But there's nothing you can do if the other party is adamant on getting one.

I agree, it's just like having a backup parachute when you jump out of a plane - it shows that you aren't serious about making the first parachute work. Or like tightrope walkers that use safety nets - it shows that they aren't serious about making it across.

A prenub is what new members should have to sign before they can post here.

And Jumpem I respect your view point, but getting a prenup doesn't show a lack of commitment/love. If your plan is to stay together for the rest of your lives then there is no difference between having and not having a prenup.

Fiance> Why should we have a prenup if we are truely in love!
Smart Guy> If we are truely in love we won't need it!

Easy 123.

It does show she's not in it for the cash =)

I'm not getting married. EVER.

Too much drama, too much stress...I wouldn't be able to be independent and my own boss.

My gf doesn't either. We both think it's a commitment for life.

Oh, well, if you decide you aren't getting one, then you aren't. My mistake for forgetting.

You have to be insane to be male and want to get married this day and age. With a divorce rate hovering at 50%, you might as well roll the dice on your financial livelihood.

Or marry a smart accountant that will bring home just as much or more than you do.

I thought that divorces required 2 signatures unless someone cheated or caused physical harm to the other.

That said, my gf's the one who will be making the money so I've got nothing to worry about

Just because 'everyone else is doing it' doesn't mean you have to. If you know what you want your life to be, find a woman who wants the same things and has the will to make it happen. Or be bitter and alone. Your choice.

You think other people get married thinking they'll get divorced in a couple of years? Things happen in life, its not something you can control

It's prenup...as in prenuptials. Nuptials being marriage.

I've been married for 12 years...too late for me.

He he, can't wait to see the reactions of some of the posters in this thread when they end up divorced...

You'll just be at work some day & get served with a divorce & restraining order at the same time...

PSA-you can also do a post nup agreement

PSA-you can do an agreement of non-marriage if you choose to live together & don't want to deal with the common law rules in your state.

I've done both.

The root of the problem is the media, family, and friends telling you how there's always someone out there for you. Guess what? This isn't the case for everyone! Some people are NOT meant to get married, but society as a whole can't handle/accept this! It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with a person who isn't cut for marriage, it's what it is.
