Taking a laptop to work...........

I need to access the internet from work, but my company has blocked the website i need to use.

I am however able to take a personal laptop in to work, I cannot use the existing phone connection or plug into the netowrk at work

Can I use my personal cell phone to access dial up?

Or what about some sort of wireless PDA that has a windows type based itnernet browser?!?

Take this to your manager as a management problem, as in, you can't do your job because your IT department is preventing you. If you have a legitimate need, run it up the flagpole.

Yep.. It's often just a bit easier to get IT to unblock a specific site at the firewall than it is to go out and buy a PDA for the specific purpose of accessing a single website.

its not a work realted website i use. its for my home buisness. but i would like to be able to access the net also while i'm traveling. just not up to speed on the latest wireless technology

A friend of mine uses his bluetooth enabled cellphone to dialup with a laptop when he is on the road.

But if this is not work related, don't do it. Keep your jobs seperate.

Most businesses don't take kindly to you using their facilities for non-work related things and especially for work related things that pertain to another company. At my job if you're caught doing something like that your name is given to HR.

Depends on who your cell phone is through, some offer services like that and you may need to buy a piece of hardware for it to work.

I recommend the cell phone idea as well. Get a carrier with GPRS and Bluetooth. I recommend Cingular, and for a phone a Sony Ericsson T616. Then just get a USB BT Adapter for your notebook, and as long as you have an Internet plan through Cingular you can use that same internet on your computer now. Speeds are about 56k.

Sucks to work somewhere you actully have to work.... guess thats what have 30 years does for ya.... Just kidding... thanks for help, looks like i'll be going with cell phone dial up
