Just make sure you're battery is charged. They will check to make sure your laptop turns on to make sure it isnt a bomb

I've made several flights since then with a laptop, cross country. Each time it's been with me. They just made me open it up. Some airports made me power it up, but otherwise they just throw it through the x-ray machine and let me carry it on.

i recently flew with one. At one airport, you they just took it out and scanned it, and the other, they scanned it, then swapped it and tested it for (I assume anyway) explosives.

I know these folks are trying to be funny, but the truth is, you can carry it on easily. The TSA only requires that you remove it from your bag and place it alone in a plastic container for the machine to scan. That's all.

I have taken my laptop as check-in baggage on all my international & domestic trips. The worst they can ask you to do is to boot up the laptop.

I've not seen this happen for a very long time. Granted, the only airports that I ever fly out of are BWI, SJC, and SFO once (in the past 2 years.) All they want is for you to take your laptop out of whatever you are carrying it in, and place it into a grey bin which will go into the xray machine (along with all your other belongings).

Nik, I'm kidding. I fly all the time with my laptop.

Only time I've had to turn mine on was coming back from Mexico, and it was the Mexican Security that made me do so. In Europe they didn't care, and they don't care in LGA, EWR, DFW, MCO, TPY, BHM, ATL, ONT, etc.

All you have to do is take it out, put it in a seperate bin, and then Bin Laden gets you!
