I'd pay that, because my last trip to the airport for a friend cost me $1500 in lost earnings for that night. It's just not worth it to me at this point in my life.

Damn you missed out on 10 lego sets.

He's driving to our place and leaving his car there. I think he'll be gone a week and a half or so. The burden is on us cause he doesn't want to pay for airport parking.

Sounds like he's just a cheap fucker. I'd be over it then. I don't want someone's car in my driveway for that long either.

Based on usernames his relative is probably Vietnamese. So this all makes sense now

I live probably no more than an hour from LAX depending on time of day, but I just won't burden anyone with that chore. Super shuttle for the win.

No more than an hour from LAX? What is that, 5 miles away, maybe less?

Uber is not always available though. They are banned in Vancouver, BC. I went to order a cab in the area and it was 190 bucks for a 1 hour ride to the airport

just sell 1 square cm of your property

For my recent trip, I just paid for the good airport parking since it was only like $20-30 more than an Uber would have cost. Adding in the convenience of just walking out of the airport to the parking garage was worth it.

That would be just about my limit for an immediate family member. Cousin? No way. Anyone asking for such a favor should be ashamed.

I'm Asian but not Vietnamese. Also 2 weeks ago he called last minute to see if we were driving to Sac for a wedding and if could catch the ride with us. We flew so couldn't help them. But I'm already starting to see a pattern with him.

Depends on who it is. Close family? Whatever is necessary.

Living in Modesto, we used to drive ~100 miles to/from SFO or ~80 miles to Oakland fairly regularly...but then again, that was pretty much my normal daily commute...so it was no big deal.

As an emergency one-time, one-way thing I'll do 2 hours each way. And that comes with the expectation of the rider eating gas, tolls and reciprocating if necessary. There is no way I'm both dropping off and picking up, take a freaking Uber or a shuttle if you have time to plan.

I don't really have a set rule of thumb, but normally I don't like asking others for rides and don't really like being asked. But really the time is probably more critical than the distance. For things where time does not matter, ex: bringing my car to the shop, then I might ask my dad to pick me up at the shop to bring me back home and I'll just ask him when is more convenient for him. But we're talking like no more than 15 minutes. I would never ask someone to drive me somewhere where it takes an hour or more.

Now if someone asked me, I'd say 1 hour would be my max, but it's kind of hard to say no to a friend. Like one friend needed a ride to a mine, it was a new job he just got and his car broke down or something, I forget. It was a blizzard out, and late, and I did not really feel like driving anywhere but I drove him knowing he really had no way of getting there. Sure he could take a cab but that's crazy expensive.

I'll only do it for a one time thing though, if someone started to take advantage then I'd say sorry, but I can't always be doing that.

it depends on how much you enjoy spending time with them

if it allows you to spend more time visiting with them, then quite a ways

if you hate spending time with them, then not very far at all
