<< Yeah, the difficulties that women face in the middle east are hard for us to understand since our belief system is so different. As strange as their customs are to us though, I think their right to sovereignty has to be upheld. Even though you may not agree with their philosophies, think about another country coming to us and trying to change some of our policies or beliefs (like maybe the death penalty or criminal convictions of children). They don't get very far, now do they. Our belief in our own intellectual and social superiority and our need to interfere with sovereign states is one of the reasons that we are disliked so much in many parts of the world......Just something to think about. >>
And we should just stand by and watch it happen? That's bullcrap! Even though the USA has plenty of it's own internal inequalities, the freedoms enjoyed far surpass that of all other countries. The Taliban is a freaking mental case and is dangerous. As an American, I don't feel I am intellectually or socially "superior". I just know what's right and what's wrong. The Taliban is just plain wrong. Oh, and "they" dislike us? So what? I dislike "them" too, for what they are doing. You can't get much more politically incorrect than that, now can you?
