oh great.... my state just started this commision based program where unmarked toyota sienna vans catch speeders. what is their definition of speeder? 5 percent over threshhold.... if you go 1.25 mile an hour over 25, you are speeding and you get a 55 dollar speeding ticket....


who funded the program? the vans and equipment were donated by a privately heald mainland company. what do they want for their donation? 28 bucks per ticket....



EDIT : IF YOU ARE EVEN 1 MILE OVER THE LIMIT, THEY CAN TICKET YOU...... THIS IS JUST ON THE NEWS.....

we have had those in arizona here for a while. i never have gotten a ticket from one. get a radar detector. they pick those things up from a mile away. it's not THAT big of a deal, it's not like the put them on freeways. they are in areas where there is a problem with speeders (school zones!?) kids walking across the street to go to school should be safe.

so what, it takes you 3.5 minutes to get from one side of the island to the other rather than 3? j/k no but yeah that sucks. just be thankful you don't have a 45 minute drive and 35mile trip one way like i do in phoenix. i am thankful we don't have photo vans on the freeway, it would take me an hour! i sympathize with your point. that sucks.

Those vans suck...they're always on Moanalua Freeway...so I'm forced to drive 50 mph. Takes like 5 min extra to drive into town now.

Get a lawyer, protest the tickets in court with valid data that they can't calibrate the guns that closely. If enough people do it the vans go away. The other option is to start telling the politicians their job is in jepardy if it doesn't go away, you'd be supprised how quickly they dissappear.

the profit margin for them would be higher if they tagged closer to the speed limit.... 28 bucks is ~ half of the 55 dollar ticket (minimum ticket ammount). the private company wont get more if they tag a 110 mph in a 30 mph zone..

either way, its bullsh1t that our officials are selling out to corporations just because our tourism economy is down.

Many times if you'll get speeding ticket for doing 60 mph in 55mph zone, you can easily go to court and 90% of the time judge will dismiss the ticket (you were trying to pass another vehicle, you accidently stepped a little too hard on a gas for a moment, etc...). However if you'll get pulled over for doing 80 mph in 55 mph, that's a totally different story...

a lot of people here DO have a drive that long, even without traffic Photo vans are taking hundreds of photos a day here,many times the number the police used to give.

btw guys, the vans I saw on the news looked like Nissan Quests with people crouched in the back -- or was I having vision problems.

We have them in Australia as well, have had them for the past 10 years or so but in the last year or two they have lost the objective of catching speeding idiots in dangerous zones, now they are setup at the bottom of steep hills, on the side of a road that you can see both directions for miles, in roadwork areas on freeways at 3am in the morning when there is absolute minimal traffic and no roadwork at all and they reduce the speed by about 60% and catch almost everyone... nowadays the govt is so corrupt they are using it only as revenue raising, it is no longer a road safety issue.

i think you are getting old =P.... they were either white or beige Toyota Sienna's... I think 2001 or 2002 models with 20% percent privacy films.....

the quests would be too small for the equipment...

ha ha well they were a$$ ugly whatever they were and they did appear to have petite men crouching in the back that's what I get for exercising during the news.
