I started using a 27" 1440p display 3+ years ago. I've been planning to upgrade to a 32"-34" 4K monitor and continue using the desk as I always have.
That seemed settled with the conclusion that I would be increasing the display size while also hanging onto a significant PPI boost compared to my 1440p screen.

Never had an issue with the desk before but the idea of moving the monitor in place of the TV and using it from 8ft distance is more appealing the more I think about it.

Once in a while I browse forums to get feedback and that's how I stumbled into info about the UHD series ranging 40" to 65".
If these were just TV's, I wouldn't consider them but these are indeed monitors, input lag is an instant advantage over TV's.

The Catleap was one of the best deals I ever made, so I'm less reluctant to go the ebay/Korea route.

You should buy this monitor ASAP. Great price. 4K Freesync is the way to go, 1440p is lame now.
EditHigh refresh rate is nice though if you need it) The Wasabi Mangos can also sometimes do 120hz 1080p.

Tell me how. LG screen (made by LG), HUD, IPS, may not have freesync, but has 120hz, only thing I see maybe different is it has a tuner, and no freesync, but may still have a kick butt picture wouldnt it since it is UHD and IPS just like what he is looking and it is 4K?

Even if input lag becomes negligible, PC exclusive hardware is much more likely to support PC features that are frequently PC exclusive to begin with.

If someone hacks the nv drivers into seeing these monitors as mobile g-sync displays, monitor's have an edge since TV's are less likely to support PC specific features.

I'm sure many have taken the cheaper route with 4K TV's, others don't care about 4:4:4 chroma subsampling and it's implications. I can't argue the value proposition of the TV but it's primary purpose tends to result in lack of relevant PC specific features and disqualify it from competing with monitors.

1.3 DP is going to be huge, panels that can even partially take advantage of 1.3 should be very appealing. For me, the benefits of higher refresh rates turn to vapor past 90Hz, a 1.3 panel 60+Hz would be my ideal monitor for quite some time to come. A single GPU mastered 1440p with 980TI, 4K is the next milestone. Resolution bumps may seem incremental but absolutely wreak havoc on achievable frame rates. Next step from 4k is 5k but performance hit skyrockets with it, I can't even guess how long the wait will be for a GPU to master 5K.

A simple "resolution bump" and/or refresh rate bump can render GPU's instantly obsolete, 4k will be the new 1080p for a while.

I hope to get the 27" Asus PG279Q within a month or so. Anything bigger is overkill on my desk. I currently have the Eizo FG2421.

This rig is primarily for online gaming.

To whom are you responding? And if me, then why shouldn't I buy it?

He was replying to OP, but you should buy the monitor in the OP too. 27 inches is peasant size. You need that 55 inch glory to see what's going on. Or you can go with the 40 inch one.

I just went from a 24" 4k monitor to a 32" 4K monitor and can't imagine how I would be able to use a 40 inch let alone a 55 inch. I suppose in a gaming situation where you immerse yourself it is possible to use a display that size, but for other PC uses I'd need a chair with rollers to move from one side of the display to the other.

In my case 32" is just about the sweet spot. See my onboxing and setup video of the 32" BenQ PV3200PT 4K 60Hz display...

Haha, it's not that bad at all. I use a big screen it's fun. Fun for gaming especially. Will eventually get a monitor for FPS gaming though and to save power when I don't need the big screen.

I think I sit close to the screen, my roommate literally played through most of fallout 4 4 feet from my 80 inch projector screen. Screamed when he first saw a mirelurk queen. It's extremely immersive when you have a big screen.

I hope that 55 inch wasabi mango is around, or is refreshed by the time Vega comes out.

I guess after that we're going to need something like a Holodeck to get any more immersive...

As I said in my OP... #8..... My computer is on a typical computer desktop... no room for anything bigger than a 27"...

I can see how maybe a 40" and certainly a 55" would be too big for a typical computer desk, but I'm not sure how 27" is the max -- I have a 32" on my typical computer desk and although it take up a lot more room than the 24" it replaced it's still very manageable.

As you can see here it's more than manageable...

Well, you guys suck. It's on the way, I'll post impressions soon.

I'm so happy. Please post impressions, pictures, video etc.!

Will you consider an AMD card to activate the freesync option?

IMO Vega would be great. I hope Vega enables 8K VSR too. 8k downsampled to 4K....

So beautiful...

Ya, 4K is where it's at, let us know how the 4K experience on a real screen goes! Can't have 4K on no tiny screen.

I'm open to AMD cards but I won't grab one just for freesync.
I have a 980TI and I hear rumors about hacking drivers to trick them into identifying the monitor as a mobile g-sync display.

Tired of waiting. A true 4K solution will first arrive with DP 1.3 but I just can't wait anymore. Couch PC gaming with 4 people "sharing" screen after a nearly decade long break, last time it was a 720p projector.

My card obviously doesn't suffice but 2x1080TI should finally get a grip on 4K.
I'll consider the options once GP100/GP102 and Vega cards are out. If DP 1.3 panels start rolling out in 3 month
It wasn't a quick decision, I've been researching 4K monitors for years now. I narrowed it down to this beast vs. an amazing 31" 4096x2160. I have lots of flexibility with monitor placement and other factors such as reflections are also lining up. Couch gaming (not to be confused with gamepad gaming) is about to be a thing for me again, might complete it with the Lapdog should ergonomic issues come up.

I just decided to go the opposite way.

Had a 27" 1440p... went up to a 40" 4K. Not happy with performance hit, so going to try going back to 27" 1440p as the DPI is almost exactly the same.

We'll see if I can take the step back in screen size.

Shipping out of Korea never ceases to amaze me. When I bought the Catleap, it arrived at my door 19 hours after ordering. No such luck this time, it was held up by customs but it's ok. I was actually trying to time it to arrive on Tuesday since I took the remainder of the week off work. Funny if it's here Monday.. or tomorrow.

You're putting that monster on your desk?

Good luck!

It's dethroning the TV from the living room spot, moving the PC in.

Initially my plan was to upgrade to a 32" screen, gain some real estate while boosting the PPI from the 27" 1440p screen I use.
