Where did I say that?

I don't like apple for MANY things. Not just ONE.

Hype is a big factor...but being limited to more Apple BS is a big one as well. Plenty more...

I'm glad you got the Samsung. I would get one, just to p*ss all over most of the rabid Samsung haters who regular this board, as well as the xda-developer and android sites. Same goes for anti-Apple buffoons. Grow up. It's just a phone. No one in the real world cares that you didn't get your petty Froyo update or that the Samsung filesystem causes a slight lag loading programs or that there is a Bing app from Verizon. The world is still fine and dandy. Shove your brand loyalty and brand demonizing up your behind.

but Froyo, filesystem slowdowns, Bing app dictate real world functionality of the phone.

Sorry I'm late to the party.

I've got a Fascinate...don't get it.

Mine's buggy and stutters a-lot which I'm sure could be fixed by rooting but I want my phone to work out of the box (and if yours will be a work-issued phone I suppose you won't be rooting).

Cap that off with Samsung's horrifically slow updates and crappy CS and I'd say look elsewhere.

Personally I'd go with a Thunderbolt or Droid X before the Fascinate. I was trying to decide between the DX and Fascinate myself a few months ago and the bulge is what killed the DX for me, now methinks it's not much of a big deal.

If you are absolutely against rooting, I would probably not get the Fascinate.

However, if you are going to root, I still think it is the best phone on the market. We should have fully functional 2.3 soon. Right now we have it but it is very alpha.

I would advise against the Samsung. The company does not care about you after they sell you the device. Everyone with a Captivate has been waiting for Froyo for close to half a year now.....nothing. I doubt anything will ever come out. I'd go for the Droid if you're on Verizon. Other than that Moto and HTC are good companies as well. This will be the last Samsung device I purchase.

Read my post above and you will see that Froyo is coming to the Mesmerize (US cell version of Fascinate) in March.

If you like to tinker, then the Galaxy S platform is one of the best there is. The dev community (go to XDA and check out the forums) is large and talented. I had a Captivate and ran a number of ROMs based on Froyo 2.2.1, almost all of which were very fast and stable.

Again, if you want a good out-of-the-box experience then you will be sorely disappointed, but if you look at the phone as a blank slate, then the sky is the limit.

I'm actually very happy with my Epic 4G. The only two problems are the long wait for the Froyo update and a basically nonfunctional GPS. Both par for the course with Samsung. Sure, those aren't minor issues, but everything else on the phone is excellent and I'd say it makes up for them.

The screen is really, really, really good. Brightest and most vivid screen I've used on any device, phone or otherwise. Even at minimum brightness it is gorgeous. Maxed out, it's way too bright except outdoors. They definitely took care of the outdoor visibility issue when they moved from AMOLED to SAMOLED.

It's fast and fluid. I've used my wife's EVO a few times and it has a general stutter to it. It's like going from a 60fps game to a 30fps game. I am aware that the EVO was limited to displaying 30fps for a while; her phone did receive the update that fixed that, but it's still slower in many games like Fruit Ninja.

If I could trade my Epic for an EVO right now for free, I don't think I'd do it.

Got it 3 days ago, so far I love it.

Day I got it I was playing side by side with my co workers Droid Global.....he was embarrassed/jealous of my screen

Screen is absolutely amazing.

Navigation didn't work at first, but I found a fix and now it's perfect. Been testing it for few days and works on the dot every time now.

As far as the Verizon bloatware, so far I found a way around everything I needed. Sure it sucks to have extra crap but to be honest...it doesn't hurt me by sitting there.

I think some of you guys complaining about lack of Froyo etc are rather anal, I'm at a point where I'm not exactly sure how Froyo can make anything better. Don't really care for Flash and in general my phone works perfect.

Kids have been having a ball with it,t hey love it. DSs will be collecting dust for months to come.

That screen is just.....WOW. I was at my friends yesterday and we were comparing it to his I-phone....so far, any phone I put the Fascinate against makes it look like a joke. Everyone wants to switch over to Samsung hehe.

I would even go as far as saying, EVER if I couldn't fix the GPS......I would still prefer this phone over Droid any day of the week, twice on Sunday.

I've been playing around with it quite a bit, but slowly getting back to my routine of using the phone 2-3 times a day....as it's all set up with apps I wanted etc. Got familiar with it pretty quickly.

Can't say I regret my choice, it's fantastic.

And of course, no phone is better then the one you don't have to pay for or pay monthly charges for. : D

The bloatware verizon has on the phone did affect my battery life negatively. I finally (thanks to http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2145343) got around to rooting and installed the superclean rom 2.4 on it. It took all of 15 minutes.. and I haven't been able to put the phone down since. The periodic lag I would get when scrolling through applications and trying to add widgets/shortcuts to the homescreens is totally gone. The hardworking devs have really unlocked the hardware's potential.
