"Creates a $500 billion fund executed by the Treasury Secretary. No serious terms regarding governance or labor reforms. The secretary can waive terms and also not disclose who receives bailouts for six months. "

Yeah....there's *no way* that is abused. No way at all possible that a Trump hotel or resort gets conveniently fast tracked ahead of another business. Unpossible! And not reported on until after the election.
How else are you gona make Don whole again.

Your concern is noted.
I also don't think airline emissions restrictions belong in it either, do you? Is this the time to tell the world that we are putting climate change in front of helping people that just lost their jobs?

a $500 billion slush fund to be administered at mnunchin's (read: trump's) whim, which as we all know will just go to people who lick the president's big mac flavored asshole, just like the tariff waivers (and plenty of that money will end up in the trump campaign's pockets, i'm sure). fiscal conservatism™

Surely anyone with half a brain can see why giving a nakedly corrupt president control of half a trillion dollars with no oversight until after he would be immune from political accountability is an incredibly bad idea, no?

They should drop that immediately and adopt similar accountability as was present in the ARRA.

Senate Republicans want to offer people little-to-nothing while giving billions to businesses that pay for their reelection campaigns.

It's the Republican default policy for going on 40 years now. See: St. Ronald of Reagan.

GIve $10K to each US Adult. If you don't need the cash, make it a $50k tax credit. Offer businesses tax credits based on their previous year tax filings, as if they aren't making money, they don't need to ramp up production of whatever isn't selling. The $10k helps individuals weather being unemployed/underemployed and not going bankrupt in the process. The tax credits help the already rich who don't need pocket change, and tax credits help businesses offset losses.

Tweak that and be done with it. Just handing the majority of the money over to people who don't need it is just furthering the destruction of our society, which of course the richest people are OK with, because it benefits themselves and they erroneously believe they're immune from it.

Of course the Republican plan is pennies for people, billions for business. It's the only policy they ever implement. Socialism for the rich, everyone else can go fucking die unless you're a campaign contributor.

Yeah, this is what I said in the other thread. It strikes me as a fantastically bad idea. The dems need to stop this bill until there's at least stringent oversight over how all that money gets doled out. This administration cannot make these decisions unilaterally.

This bill does little to nothing to help the common man. It's been written as a handout to the big money interest.

Okay, but what do you guys think about the Democrats adding unrelated things to their version of the bill? I think it makes it look like they care more about climate change than they do about helping the working class.

Could be part of a negotiation tactic: some could be items that you may be willing to dump right now in exchange for other items; and some of it is likely being blown out of proportion to try and win some overall PR battle between the GOP and the Democratic Party.

Democrats have a lot of leverage right now and many policy goals that would help with this pandemic response (and just general protections for workers); they shouldn't just throw it all away to help the Republicans push through some shit bill.

those darn democrats:

The "Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act":
  • Allocates $150 billion to supporting hospitals, local health centers and government-funded medical programs, with an additional $80 billion in low-interest loans to hospitals.
  • Eliminates cost-sharing for coronavirus treatments and vaccines for all patients, including the uninsured.
  • Addresses broader health care concerns that Democrats have pushed for months, including increasing subsidies on the individual market and creating new incentives for states to expand Medicaid.
  • Provides child care assistance to health care workers and emergency personnel.
  • Offers individual Americans $1,500 in direct deposits, and up to $7,500 for a family of five. The benefit would be available to anyone with an individual taxpayer identification number, retirees and unemployed individuals.
  • Would temporarily provide $600 per week to unemployed workers affected by the coronavirus. Self-employed workers, Americans whose contracts were cancelled, and new entrants to the job market would also be eligible.
  • Expands paid sick leave and family medical leave, as well as gives more money to food-safety benefits.
  • Provides $500 billion in grants and interest-free loans to small businesses.
  • Creates a $200 billion stabilization fund for states and $15 billion for local governments through the Community Development Block Grant program. The legislation also authorizes the Federal Reserve to purchase state and local government bonds.
  • Pumps nearly $60 billion into schools and universities, with $50 billion directly provided to states for school funding and nearly $10 billion to higher education institutions.
  • Dedicates $4 billion in grant funding to help states with upcoming elections and nationally mandates 15 days of early voting and no-excuse absentee vote-by-mail, including mailing a ballot to all registered voters in an emergency.

Moar selective concern. I'm all ears how a completely opaque half a trillion slush fund for Trump and Mnuchin to give out to their rich buddies helps the common man.

I get that. I really do. But it looks bad and PR is everything.

Hey, smartass, I'm not some chump conservative in here to troll your ass. I'm asking a serious question and looking for serious answers for my one specific concern. I already know the GOP bill is shit just like the entire GOP. I am wondering why Pelosi thinks she has enough political capital to be adding fairy tale wish list pie in the sky to a bill that people are actually paying attention to.
