Guys cannot wear makeup to even out skin tone. Moderate tanning will do that for you very nicely.

Also, as a body builder having a little color makes my body look better.

Do I bake myself until I'm dark? No. But a moderate tan does make me look better and in the winter it helps me with seasonal depression.

THANK YOU.... exactly.
i gotta agree. Amused is once again the voice of reason here.

WRONG. Tanning does NOT add the appearance of definition. definition is created by shadow and shading due to striations in muscles being visible. DARKER color obscures these striatiations. Body builders tan before shows because it's a common perception. There is NO other reason.

Um, no. Darker skin intensifies the shading. The shadows are darker, thus one looks more defined. Body builders use posing oil and tanning spray for a reason. The darker one is, the more defined they look.

However, that's not entirely why I do it. Hell, I don't compete. I tan MODERATELY to even out skin tone. Also to get rid of the farmer john tan I get from riding the Harley, mowing the lawn and other clothed outdoor activities.

shadows are NOT intensified by darkness in the general area. That ruins contrast. If dark areas intensified shadowing you'd be able to pick out individual shadows in a pitch black alley for instance. Shadowing comes down to contrast.

What on earth makes you think tanning beds make people "orange bronze?"

Your ignoance is showing. "Orange bronze" is a sure sign of SUNLESS tanning products like sprays and lotions. A tanning bed gives you the same color the sun does.

Dude, you need to chill. Why on earth would you be so emotional over this? Why do you care what other people do to their bodies?

Um, OK. You know better than the entire body building and fitness profession.

The fact of the matter is it DOES help definition. I can see it in myself when I get a little bit of color.

BTW, too white ruins contrast as well, giving a washed out look and definition is lost because of reflected light filling in the shadows. Bet you didn't think of that in your emotional state, did you?

Oh, your rant is against artificial tans? Yeah I agree the artificial tans look stupid. For almost every case I can easily determine who has a natural tan and who doesn't. I love to get a tan but under the god given sun, not some light bulb.

The ONLY reason i could possibly think of is the fact that someone the OP cared about had skin cancer... if not... i don't know what the hell he is so whiny about.
To have something this stupid cause him so much anger... is just beyond me.

Yep, I am currently working on my tan. It is part of my physical appearance renovation project. I am running, lifting, and tanning. Mmm, pure sex coming soon.

i prefer a good tan thats not overly deep fried.
I have tanned in booths before to 'base tan' before I went on a cruise? The reason, I didn't wanna worry about putting on so much sunblock that I never would develop a tan on the cruise, so getting a light tan in the beds before I left allowed me to not have to worry as much about burning and move on to developing a rather great tan the last couple of days.

I try and lay out in the summer anymore, at least at pools, because I am outside so much I develop a farmers tan, and well.. taking off my shirt and showing a pasty white chest, with dark arms, doesn't exactly flatter the ladies, or myself for that matter.
regardless, a tan does show definition, and it just looks good.

i'll agree, a tan doesn't make everyone look good, some people it makes them look worse.. and even the hot ladies will lose a notch or two on my scale if they are overly tanned as it will not look good. but the perfect tan makes someone who is naturally great looking, well... extremely sexy and gorgeous at times.

but to each his own. you go after the pasty irish if you want, I like tans on the ladies.

but whatever the hell pissed you off so much has my laughing my a@@ off because it has offended you so greatly to basically irritate everyone on this board and even go as far as making yourself look like a complete moron.

but the good summer tan is the best, and I hate seeing people extremely dark in the summer, unless of course I know they went on vacation. even a light tan in the summer isn't bad, because up here in Ohio, they tend to look like 'snow bunnies', and the girls that like the snow and are tan are HOT.

It doesn't really matter if I like a tan or not......I can't tan. As a redhead my skin only has two colors, red or white. There is no tan in me.
