Tard bounced out of theater for laughing too loud

Town of Wallkill ? If you're a 7-year-old kid with cerebral palsy and autism, you have to take your laughs anywhere you can get them.
Just don't have too much fun at the local movie theater, or you might get thrown out.
That's what happened to young Anthony Pratti this week. To say his parents are upset about it would be an understatement.
Anthony, who uses a wheelchair, was with his parents, his sister and his grandmother at the Loews Cineplex theaters in the Galleria at Crystal Run Sunday, watching a 1:15 p.m. matinee of the G-rated film "March of the Penguins."
The family sat in the wheelchair section provided by the theater. Anthony was having a good time, said his mom, Gina Pratti.
"He was laughing, but he really wasn't much louder than any of the other kids," she said.
About 15 minutes into the film, one of the theater's managers approached the family, she said.
"He said our son was laughing too loud," Pratti said. "My husband told him Anthony didn't understand, that he was disabled, but that we'd try to quiet him down."
Not good enough, apparently ? the manager brusquely told the family that Anthony had to leave, Pratti said.
Outraged, the family followed the manager to the lobby, where they were told they all didn't have to leave ? just Anthony, Pratti said.
Pratti was dumbfounded.
"I said to him, what are we supposed to do, wheel him outside and leave him there?" she said.
The manager refunded the family's ticket purchase and sent them on their way, she said.
Pratti and her husband have spent the past three days making phone calls and sending e-mails, trying to get someone ? anyone ? from Loews to give them an explanation.
"Not one person from Loews has called me back," Pratti said.
When contacted by the Times Herald-Record yesterday, a representative of Loews corporate headquarters said the company is concerned by Pratti's story, and is looking into Sunday's events.
The company says it will issue a statement today.
Pratti has spoken with attorneys about the incident, but isn't sure she wants to pursue any legal action.
Meanwhile, Pratti says she hopes Loews will do whatever it takes to make amends.
"This was only the third movie Anthony had ever seen, and now we're afraid to go back because they might throw us out again," Pratti said.
Explanations aside, Pratti has a simple message for the manager she says publicly humiliated her son:
"Shame on you."

What kind of idiot expects a 7-year old disabled child to wait outside while the rest of his family gets to watch the rest of the movie?

I'm glad to see the family has the diginity isn't taking a "sue first" mentaility towards the problem. If I were Loews, I'd be kissing ass and apologizing to the family immediately.

I also think they should give the kid free movie passes for a year and all the concessions he can eat.

christ it was a 1pm matinee... the manager could've told the complainer to STFU. Different story if it was a packed theater and more people brought it up.

I don't know who is dumber, the OP (and his title) or the guy that kicked the poor kid out. I'll call it even.

If he was causing a distrubance to the other people in the crowd then yes, they did the right thing by refunding their money and asking them to leave. I wish my theater would do the same to idiots who bring young kids and babies to movies.

Now on the issue if he (the manager) did it with tact is another story.

Obviously he was louder than the other kids. He was obviously annoying enough to the customers that the manager asked them to leave, and refunded their tickets.

At a 1pm show it's gonna be filled with young kids who are all laughing and being loud. If the kid was being excessively loud they should have received a warning to keep him quiet or they would have to leave.

Kicking them out right away was unacceptable.

With the litigious nature of our society, I'm surprised the manager would have the gall to do something like that. Whether you consider it right or wrong, it still has the potential for huge reprecussions. Those don't just have to be legal, either. Can you imagine if work got around town that such-and-such establishment is harsh/uncaring/unfeeling toward physically and mentally handicapped children? Talk about negative PR...and I happen to believe the manager deserves any negative backlash, personally.

BIG mistake by the theater. What a PR nightmare.

On a funnier note, this is exactly what gags were made for.

Wow!

You really need to look at it from the other people's point of view. Could you enjoy a movie with a "tard" laughing out loud at the top of his lungs after every time you saw a penguin?

Well the article is told completely from the family's point of view, so I don't think we are getting the full story.
Also, they were watching March of the Penguins, which as far as I know isn't really a "funny" film, so there isn't any reason why anyone should be laughing excessively throughout the movie. I'm guessing this guy just found the sight of penguins funny, so he was laughing constantly which would annoy me as well.

Keith Lipsey, a Washingtonville police officer and martial arts teacher who works with autistic children, said he was incensed by Anthony's story.

I bet that martial arts class is a fun sight to watch.

Heres the shens, of course the mom is going to say he wasn't laughing any louder than the other kids. Because shes his damn mom. The real question is exactly how loud was this kid laughing. He could have been screaming. I'd rather have some anonymous feedback from other people in the theater.

"We may not have exercised the best sensitivity in handling this situation," said John McCauley, senior vice president of marketing for Loews Cineplex Entertainment.

That manager is no longer employed.
