I know there's a thread on the bikes already but I went to Target and got specifics for you

Pacific Elite we all know about. It's white/yellow/orange and is 39.94.

DV8 26" bike (don't remember if it's Pacific or Magna)
blue/red/white/black
dpc # 082 09 0007
$34.94

Magna XL2 24" bike
navy/maroon
dpc # 082 08 0524
$29.94

Magna XL2 26" bike
steel gray/maroon
dpc # 082 08 0526
$29.94

Don't know why the 24" and 26" are scanning the same price but who's to argue. Keep in mind that all of the above bikes may come in other color combo's. These were the one's I saw today. If you see the style/models I've listed regardless of color they should be clearance.

There's is also a Mongoose Decade 20" bike 75% off but I didn't see it. I spoke to one of my friendly Target employees and he said it should be all blue. He said it also came in green. The only one's I saw were blue/silver and he said that's not the one on clearance.

btw...I saw all these bikes 20 mins ago at the Signal Hill Target (Atlantic & 405). There's 1 Pacific Elite left at the store on South & Downey.

Sporting Goods
Many markdowns in this area. I saw lots of different golf balls on clearance (75%) including Titleist. There are also golf bags, single golf clubs, jr set of golf clubs, golf carts, head covers, etc. Lots of golf items, period.

Baseball bats and baseball/softball gloves, etc. are also 75% off.

Saw some asst luggage 75% off too. Some is only 50% though.

Saw some Eddie Bauer backpack baby carriers that were 75% off. They are tan/black and are $32.xx.

Other camping items appear to be 30% to 50% off so keep your eyes on that stuff if you're interested.

You guys know the routine, go in and scope it out. Hopefully you'll beat the resellers to the stuff. I say this because while I was in the Signal Hill store, a man & wife were clearing the shelves of golf bags, baseball bats and gloves, and backpacks. I overheard her say they sell them on Ebay.

These items actually went down yesterday but there's still alot out there.

I wonder if any of the Portland, Oregon Target's have this in stock.

I was able to score a clearance mini-fridge for only $39.50 last year, that was HOT!

thanks for the info!
now all we need is one of these "fire marshall bill" types to run up in this thread crying about "these bikes are dangerous! for the love of favorite deity, pay $1000 instead for a bike you'll ride 10 times a year!" and this will be an official anandtech bike thread lol

Geez... these friggin forums!

I just got back from Target where I spent about $90 on: 2 softball gloves (reg $60/ea), 2 baseball gloves (reg $50/$30 each), 1 softball bat (reg $70), various softballs & baseballs & an 18-pack of golf balls. All this stuff was around 75% off.

Problem is... I don't play softball, nor baseball, nor golf.

Guess it's time to learn how

Just in case anyone's sincerely ignorant, there are some good bicycle-shop-quality bicycles under $300, and they come in a range of sizes so they fit you well, and are generally built and tuned with your saftey and long-term satisfaction in mind. They may not have the (extremely low-quality) front or rear shocks you see on some of the Target-class cheapies, and your eyes may not see the differences, but a good salesman should be able to point out the differences in frame construction, bearings and components, just like most of you could easily explain to a newbie that a Duron/GeForce2MX system is worth paying more compared to a Cyrix-based eMachines with an ATI RageIIc.

And with that, I wash my hands of this topic again. Caveat emptor...

Hmm, sounds like the mechanic didn't communicate as well as he/she could have. As a general tip for those who are having a repair estimate done at a bicycle shop, ask them to write down their estimate in two columns, Parts and Labor. Ask them to explain each of the items they're suggesting, and whether it's critical or optional. Oftentimes there's a cause-and-effect relationship. For instance, if you want a brake adjusted, the brake surface (the wheel's rim) must be fairly straight. Before the wheel can be straightened, its bearing may need adjustment to eliminate side play which is preventing the straightening. In short: "ask questions!"

unclebud, it sounds like you're disenchanted with those guys, so you might consider picking up the Haynes bicycle-repair manual, which is put out by the same Haynes that makes car-repair manuals. In my 12 years as a bicycle mechanic, it's the only consumer-level manual that's ever impressed me. You can probably special-order it from an auto-parts store if they carry the Haynes auto manuals. With a few bicycle-specific tools, you'll be able to do most of your own tuning, repair and upgrading if you're mechanically apt.

I know there are golfers in this forum so you may want to check out the clearance golf items. I didn't bother with it when I was there Friday but today I did. I picked up Wilson Ultra Cabretta leather golf gloves for 1.90 ea and Dunlop gloves with Cabretta leather for 1.70. Heck at this price my husband can trash them after every game for all I care.

btw...there was still 1 26" DV8 and 1 24" XL2 at the Signal Hill store this afternoon. The other bikes were gone.

I thought the only blue/silver Mongoose Target had was the decade that was on clearance. It's also a 20" bike, not 24".

I corrected my post to show Mongoose is a 20".

The blue/silver Mongoose I saw wasn't a Decade. I can't remember the name though. I did see a Decade today and it is all blue. It says Decade in white paint on the frame.
