Target (the store) Love it or Hate it?

For like 3 years now, whenever I go into target I have this overwhelming angst for everybody that is in that store. It's like I am slowly being transformed into a crazed postal worker as soon as I step foot inside. Everybody there depresses me...mainly because it is such a horrid store. It's like walmart, but at least walmart KNOWS that it is this poor peoples store (flame bait , I mean like it isn't someplace where the upper and middle class will be found in high percentages), but target puts out this false image of being better than walmart, when to me, they are worse.
Ever since my triad of hatred for Target has begun I have filed compaints everytime I've been in there. Last time my complaint was about a 60 ft roll of aluminum foil being cheaper than a 30 ft roll. But I have to say that my favorite complaint was complaining about how the complaint cards have the card itself and then this other thing that you tear off, so I was like, "this extra flap of paper on these complaints is wasteful." And they replied, "We have found that our comment cards help to serve our customers better."

Apparently not.

Images portrayed by a company (Target in this case) are merely propaganda to the consumer. In order to attract as many people as possible, the image that Target is trying to get at the consumer is that it will work for both the great and the not so great. I'm sure that every store tries to attract revenue...

However, of course there are the nice 1337 stores that are really stringent on who comes in and goes out of the stores - as a mere proposal of their image.... (Nordstroms...Banana Republic, etc)

Target's just trying to increase revenue... can't blame them for that

i don't find the practices of any store atrocious enough to warrant a written complaint from me. but then again, i'm lazy

have you ever been inside a kenneth cole store? let me describe my experience...

gopunk walks in, wearing a columbia "spitfire" jacket and jansport backpack.
people wearing expensive looking black clothing with black rimmed designer glasses simultaneously turn around.
gopunk asks salesperson if they have any sunglasses (they have kenneth cole sunglasses at the bon, it was only logical they would be at the kenneth cole store...)
salesperson says 'no'
gopunk walks out and records kenneth cole store as one of the weirdest encountered.

i think walmart is a great store, alot of times it is overly crowded, but its got good items that everyone needs at a cheap price, nothin wrong with that, they sell enough stuff to sell it cheaper and still make money

i was watching a show on pbs a few days ago about walmart wanting to open a new store in a small town called ashland i believe, not sure where thats at, anyhooters, at the end of the show, it stated that by 2004, walmart plans to open a new store every buisness day..freaky stuff

Why is it a poor person's store? I would have to say that half the people that shop in target go there to buy things because target has everything. Kitchenware, toys, cards, books, electronics, household stuff, etc. I guess the people that make me want to go insane are the ones that buy target brand clothes. Not to say the quality sucks, which it probably does, but that their clothes are hideous beyond belief. I probably just feel bad because those people will be wearing those clothes one day and it will make me cry

the thing is that Target and a Calvin Kline store are totally different, like comparing apples and oranges...... you can't exactly walk into a Calvin Kline store and buy kitchenware
if you're talking about clothing, then i guess you could say Target is a poor peoples store

Hmmm. I find Target to be a very nice, clean, well-organized store. Walmart, on the other hand is like chaos. It's not clean, people don't speak English half the time and they cram so much crap in the aisles, it's almost impossible for a cart to get through.

Target is where the cheap-ass middle class go to shop (i apply here).

However. DONT BRING A CHIX0R TO TARGET.

They will immediately turn into MARTHA STEWART and buy tons of junk that wasn't on the list..

Trust me, If i get tricked into TARGET, i'm screwed. Spending $80-100 each visit, sometimes more when the woman finds furniture (TEAM LIFT) and i have to drag it home and assemble it.

Target's okay. I used to buy a lot of my son's clothes there, just because a growing 9 yr. old goes through t-shirts at the rate of two a week. Now he's suddenly label-conscious, so I don't do their clothes anymore, but it's a good store to go to when you just need a variety of stuff and you aren't looking for Tiffany-quality or cost. Where else are you going to buy a sink drain, a CD, a deck of cards and a case of Pepsi all at once?

Target seems to be pretty clean and well-organized. Their employees apparently passed Customer Service 101 and most of the time, I don't mind going there. I will never be caught in a Target on the weekends though - something about shopping with a few hundred screaming kids and irritated parents just turns me off.

Wal-Mart is dirty and their customers always drive me crazy. It just happens to be two minutes from my house though - so if I need a spool of thread or a bag of cat litter, it's the better choice than driving a half hour to Target or the mall.

I'd rather buy my clothes at a target or wal-mart then spend $70 on some POS sweater with a tiny logo on it. One store i really like for clothes is Old Navy because it's so damn cheap. If it fits, looks decent, and is cheap I will buy it. The logo/brand is almost meaningless to me.

I like Target! I'm not po! I'm not white trash! They sell decent quality stuff at good prices. All the housewares are much better priced than at places like Bed, Bath, & Beyond or Linens & Things -- now those are the "rich people" stores. I only go to those places to buy bed pillows because I'm real picky about my pillows.

I just bought a TV from Target a week ago. Nice 25" Phillips w/ S-Video and Composite inputs, side inputs and headphone jack, digital comb filter, etc. Only cost $270, I think it was a nice deal. I have a bookshelf in my room that came from Target, and lots of other random junk around the house from Target. Good place.

Now Wal-Mart, I really dislike most of them. Always waaaay too crowded and busy for my liking. Constantly dodging people and parking way out in the parking lot. The store is always messy, and I really don't like the way they lay them out. But they do have a little better selection of hardware type items than Target so sometimes I'll bite the bullet and go there.

Target is the sh!t man. Been going there since I was a kid. They have great prices and a pretty cool return policy. Like someone mentioned above, you can't say Target is a cheap store by comparing it to designer clothing stores. Most of the things I buy at target are things like misc electronics, games, candies, kitchenware, etc. Anyone who buys these kinda things in expensive stores should go shoot themself. As for clothing, many people shop there for their kids. If I was rich as hell, I wouldn't mind shopping at Target for my kids. Not like brand name really makes a difference at such a young age. Plus even as an adult their clothing brands ain't too bad either.

I USED to like Target. Now, it seems they are becoming like K-Mart but with better customer service.

The selection has noticeably diminished in the last few months. I can find more at Wal-Mart (usually cheaper - now).

While we're at it, K-Mart's ad prices are getting better but the rest of their stuff is getting more expensive.

I remember reading an article in one of those "newsy" magazines a couple of years back (probably Newsweek) about millionaires. It said that most millionaires use coupons, shop at Walmart, eat at McDonalds, etc.

While those upper-crust stores you mentioned might only be in the price range of the wealthy, Walmart and the like are accessible to everyone -- including the fabulously wealthy.
