First things first, I passed both tests because, well, I don't do drugs.
That said, I kind of feel targeted in this whole "random" screening. Here is the scenario. During a tumultuous time in my personal life, some of that stress spilled over into my work. I got to the point where maybe my appearance wasn't on point, let the beard go a little, didn't tuck in my shirt, stop pressing a crease into my slacks etc. It was a really tough time. In the middle of that I got hit with two random screenings in three weeks. Both resulted cleanly, as expected, but what a convenient time to test for drugs, right? A decline in work performance and professionalism, usually signs of some form of drug or alcohol use. Truth is, I just had a really horrible patch of events happen at home, and it kind of consumed me a bit.
The policy at work states that all drug screenings are random, unless a work related accident in which workman's comp could be an issue happens.
If that is true, then it really is a fantastic coincidence about the time of my screenings. That was a good while ago, so now, that everything is settled, I'm back to my normal self, my boss and I have laughed and joked about that rough patch and made light of it, except that I he said once "Yeah, I didn't know if it was home stress, work stress, hell drugs or alcohol, you were just a mess for a while."
That statement right there was the light bulb. Ok, it had to have been intentional. I, nor anyone else in my inner working circle, have seen drug screenings going on in over a year.
I don't really care if I was targeted, I don't have anything to hide from a piss test, however, do you guys feel like employers do this often? The old "how random is random?" question? If they do, that is kind of messed up since it is embarassing to whip out the ol John Thomas in front of a co-worker.
Cheers!
