D'oh! I was getting ready for work, and I went to check my mail, and my machine was froze at the BIOS screen. I had to turn it off and then go to work. No idea how much time was lost and not crunching though. *cries*

Looks like this machine isn't going to OC anymore at all. I jumped it up to 2.7GHz, and it froze, so it looks like it is stuck at 2.6GHz.

You might want to take a look at the 3.3v rail capacitors on the motherboard and inside the PSU ...

Might be the first symptom of bad caps manifesting ...

Good point. IIRC, the mobo has all solid state caps, but I'll definitely check the PSU. Thanks for the idea.

On an other note ... NanoHive seems to be progressing on "pending credits" quite well:

Granted credit: ---- 991,931.93 (we will pass the million today, I think...)
RAC: ----------------- 35,156.36 (some 2 500 more than AMD-Users and 3 800 more than BOINC Synergy. We possibly may pass them before the month is over...)

I really do not understand the credit policy - and I have more than 18 000 pending credits.

Good to be crunching DPAD.

I wouldn't dare to guess what they'll do credit-wise. I'll officially say now I'm glad we left. Their credit policy is so very inconsistent, but also the "success" definition is very odd. I understand why, but I think it's skewing their concentration. The users expecting a release version (as opposed to what I'd call a pre-beta) is also draining resources from the dev. It would be fun to return later, after they iron out the kinks. I dig nano-science, despite my N@H profile.

Question: On dualcore /SMP machines, do you guys run 2 separate instances of DPAD with 1 thread each OR one instance with 2 threads?

I have the feeling that two instances with 1 thread yield more points than one instance with 2 threads but that's just a feeling.

I'm currently running 1 instance with 2 threads. I'll download the benchmark program and test it when I get home.

When I watch my CPU load with 1 instance and two threads, at the beginning and at the end of a run the usage can drop to 70%.

With 2 instances and 1 thread each it always stays 100%.

On the NanoHive-note: my pending credits have dropped by some 10 000 credits in the passed 5 days - only 16 K left ...

(The granted credit has increased by some 9 000 credits ... which is OK)

Edit:

Team Anandtech has passed the 10^6 credit limit: 1 020 470.41 credits granted!

Congrats all!

Another thing I noticed: Do your CPUs also run cooler with DPAD than they do with BOINC? With BOINC my X23800+@4200 easily reaches 50°C, with DPAD it's only 46°C.

Yeah, I got that ... i was just dreaming:

a processor AMD x23800 would be much more fun - as fast as a pentium running at 23.8 GHz or a AMD with 23800 cores - at whatever speed...

I'll dream on ...

I'll be "offline" tomorrow, teaching a New racers School for Keigwins @ the Track. Unfortunately, this will likely mean my production will be down a bit again, but I plan on catching up on Monday.

Behave.
