This doesn't make sense to me. How can the CPU temp as measured through TAT at idle be just a few degrees higher then ambient? Even an idling cpu is hot. I'm wondering if TAT isn't always accurate.

Core 2 Duo Processor: E6400
Overclocked to: 3.2GHz
IDLE TAT temperature: 38-40C (depending on ambient)
Orthos LOAD TAT temperature: 48-50C (depending on ambient)
CPU Cooling Solution Name: Thermaltake Big Typhoon
Vcore: 1.3500 as set in Bios, 1.304 cpuz idle, 1.288 cpuz load

I've run Prime 95 for 8+ hours no problem but if I drop the Vcore to 1.3375 I'll get a reboot after about an hour of running Prime 95. 1.35 is my minimum stable Vcore at 3.2GHz.

My TAT temps actually read 28-29 on core0 and 26-28 on core1. My ambient is measured with a thermometer sitting on top of the case. However my house temp is only 22C measured at the thermostat only about 20 feet away. Maybe it's just pulling cooler air than is being measured at the top of the case.

Coretemp agrees with with TAT within a couple of degrees. Usually shows both cores at 27 at idle. At full load, they are pretty much the same. Speedfan's Voltage2 (iirc, don't use it much) agrees as well.

Is it possible that the temp diodes on the chips are not accurate. I still think that a cpu at idle should be significantly higher then ambient or even the temp inside the case.

Overclocked to: stock
IDLE TAT temperature: 43C (depending on ambient)
Orthos LOAD TAT temperature: 54C (depending on ambient)
CPU Cooling Solution Name: Scythe Ninja (AS5 has not broken in yet, just got it today)
Vcore: 1.3500 as set in Bios, 1.328

Core 2 Duo x6800
No longer OCed (was 3.5)
P5W
Zalman S9500

Asus OC Meter with load . . . 49
Orthos with load . . . 63 and 60
TAT idle . . . 51 and 48
TAT with 100% load . . . 71 and 68
System from Asus . . . 47

This seems pretty hot to me and the reason I went back to stock. Antec 180 case with all three fans running on medium setting. With door off everything runs 3 degrees cooler. Very quiet system but I am a little puzzled about the temps. Either the Zalman is not seated perfectly flat, or it simply isn't that good! I tried reseating it. No luck. Anyone else having heat problems with the Zalman?

Someone explain this to me please:
I got a E6400 with a AC freezer pro running on full blast (disabled controll in bios) and my TAT temp is 35C idle.
Witch the fan speed set to auto, the TAT temp is 45C. These values are "stock CPU speed".

How can it be that others in this thread have the same CPU and same freezer, but idle at 40 ?

All the values that have been given here with the AC freezer, are you using full RPM (2500+) or is it set to auto?

I tried to OC my cPU to 3ghz, and with MAX fan speed, i was idling around 43 and 60C max. It was stable and everything, Prime95 was no problem but I turned it back down because I didnt like the temp higher then everyone elses...

Why is mine so much warmer then the other E6400 temps we are seeing in this thread?

The room temp is about 20C, there is 3 120mm fans taking care of airflow in the case.. I dont understand the diffrence in temperatures.

What is the TAT temp "safe zone" on a E6400? And how does it affect long-term life if im at the top of the safe-zone vs bottom?

Last night was the coolest so far actually...21C!! During the day its above 30 and an night it dips to somewhere in the mid 20's...This translates to a dip in my CPU temps of about two degrees or so...But I like I posted elsewhere, I'm getting some aftermarket cooling hopefully soon and I'll post an update..

Hahaha, seriously last summer it hit 35°C and the government put out national health warnings! "Get off the streets or you'll die!"
It gets as high as 40-41C here in Texas, during the average summer, although I've seen 45C, but that's rare. Ever heard of Death Valley, California? It isn't rare at all for it to be 51-52C there, during the summer.
