they even get 'free' healthcare

And free defense as well. Not that anyone would attack Canada (or hell we don't know that, without the US in the world there's no telling how far the Ruskies would have wanted to extend their reach) and when push comes to shove like WW2 the Canuks are worthy allies.

Lol, it's not that bad up there. And I don't care whether it is privatized or government run, it's whatever works best for the country in question in outcomes, cost, and distribution. We've yet to find what works best for us, maybe someday.

I've been up there, Montreal.

It's pretty bad. I'm sure they are spending well into debt.

Considering I currently pay $10,312.50 + 25% federal income tax over a certain amount, 8.82% state income tax, 7.65% social security tax rate which makes it more or less 40%.. not to mention that I pay property tax and sales tax on everything I buy and.. I pay for my health insurance.. I'll take the 42% flat and free healthcare anyday.

I hardly think I'm alone.

Yeah, health insurance costs in the US are $12K per family per year. I bet combined tax+benefit costs are lower in Canada.

It's not a real cost, however, because just like in Canada, the Government is not held accountable, and spends indiscriminately into debt.

I wouldn't be surprised...

But people may want to check which end of the political spectrum the Fraser Institute leans.

You mean like this:

The New York Times has described the Institute as libertarianhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraser_Institute#cite_note-13 and conservative.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraser_Institute#cite_note-NYT_Stance-2 The Calgary Herald called it conservative,https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraser_Institute#cite_note-CalgaryHerald-3 Langley Times classified it as right-of-center libertarian.

Easy solution to this;
1. Move to the USA
2. Become rich
3. Pay no more than 15%

Done.

Check and mate Canada.

You get what you pay for. Have you been to Canada? Clean, efficient, and public services that actually work.

Canada has taxes revenue of of only about 32% of GDP, so this institute is conjuring up an extra 10% out of somewhere. I'm shocked that a right wing think tank might overestimate taxation though. Just shocked.

Quite easy to do when you don't use total income before taxes (they use cash income only) severely limiting the definition of income while overstating taxation by including non-tax revenues which make up about 18% of total government revenue.

I'm with this guy even with our mortgage deduction we're in the low to mid 30% range. 42% plus remove most healthcarecosts sounds appealing.

What's that? You're complaining about conservatives that don't want to spend money yet are bitching up a storm about how much taxes you pay?

Awww, that's cute. Maybe one day you will learn.
