Tbird 1.4 (266) vs XP1800

1800 would be somewhat faster
the comparison i'd like to see though is tbird 1.4 at 8.5 x 166 vs axp 1800+ at 133
i've run my trbird at up to 9.5 x 166 before and it did up performance a bit....helped that my ram would hit ddr333 cas 2 at tight timings
what's the price differential?

Well, I have a Tbird 1.4 on an ECS K7S5A and an XP 1800+ on an ECS K7VTA3, and the latter is a bit quicker in response. Of course, the rest of the system is quite different too, other than the fact that both use Kingston PC2100 ValueRAM.

If you already have the Tbird 1.4, I wouldn't bother with an upgrade. I've had a Tbird @1500MHz, Morgan at @1370MHz and now XP @1800MHz, and other than the misleading 3DMark getting a nice boost, all of the above were relatively close in performance for desktop apps and gaming. If you need to buy another cpu, grab the XP1600+ for $53 shipped with AGOIA-Y stepping, it will probably hit a 166MHz fsb (1743MHz) at default voltage.

save your money and get an AGOIA....I have mine rcok solid at 166mhz FSB with no problems, and I have built 6 other computers with the AGOIA without a problem yet. I know www.pccshop.com has just the AGOIA 1600+ in stock so you wouldn't risk getting the wrong stepping. Here is the page Link
