Tbird 1GHZ - Need T-H-E best HSF to cool the chip. Help plz.

Hi,

I'm tired of getting my chip to run 45 degree with normal use. I heard about tbirds running at 35 fully loaded so here I am, my jealousy has taken the control and I must own the best damn combination of heat sink and fan a man can hope for. Do you have any suggestion.

From what I heard, Artic Silver II make a pretty good job on the thermal grease area and I thought I read about a certain "gladiator" fan that made a suprisingly good job.

Looks like the THermalright SK6 is the best performer overall.

and notice how the crap-heatsink tests at hardocp have different results month to month... Some heatsinks go down in temp, others go up. Maybe if someone actual did even basic testing controls it would be different. But then again, he's so embedded into the idea that socket-thermsitors give die temp and that they are accurate, he won't change his testing ways.

Either way, some problems he has could be solved by constantly measuring ambient case temp 1 inch from cpu fan inlet (industry standard), rather htan wall thermometer.

Pickup the all copper gladiator and delta combo. Someone posted in another thread that it can currently be purchased for $25 shipped. In any serious scientific test it has been in the top tier of fan/heatsink combos.

Mike2warrior is absolutely right, measuring CPU temps with anything other than an accurate external temperature probe are meaningless.... people might post that they are getting loaded temps of 35C but I highly doubt it. Also different motherboards report different temps for the CPU depending on how their on board thermistor and BIOS work with each other.

I will refer you here. Check out the Global Win FOP 32-I on the big table at the end. It cooled the test system to 38C which isn't bad and then look here. You can get it for less than $20 shipped.

The motherboard more then anything affects your temperature. So don't get too jealous, unless as said beofre you are using an external thermometer.

I really need to buy in a bundle. I need to get a SK6 ->AND<- a darn cool fan ->AND<- a kick ass thermal paste. Anybody has an idea where I could get these three in a sort of &quot;bundle&quot;?

well all hsf's come with their own stock fans and thermal pad so they wont be bundled with extra delta 7k rpm fans and arctic silver II thermal paste.

Yeah, I just love you guys! So helpfull, really! It's a shame I'm such a lamer when it comes to explain my situation!

What I mean is that I have only one chance to buy that HFS bundle. I need to get someone to sell me all the goods in one shot. Credit card is not mine and I don't want to overuse it. So here's my case.

I want a SK6. I want a good fan. Which one? And I want Artic Silver II. I need someone to get these for me and then I'll buy it in a one shot transaction.

Vincentf: Couldn't you just find one store that carries all those things you need and make one order from them? Then there would only be that one charge on your (or whoever's) credit card. I know 2CoolTek carries the bare SK6, the Delta black label, and AS2.

one word of warning about the sk6, very good hs btw, but it has a terrible clip. i had a real hard time w/ this clip. u have to use a screwdriver to put it on and take it off. taking it off is really difficult. just a word of warning.
