Why not just go for a 1ghz AXIA and overclock that mutha??? Jebus, it's like $5.00 difference in price!!

A Duron is usually roughly equivalent to an Athlon of 100MHz lower clock.
This can vary depending upon what specific core it is though.


So in this case I would take the Athlon 850MHz.

His mb is KT133, this is not a valid solution.
If his mb is capable of 1.4G/266,
Why not just go ahead to 1.4G, and no need to do overclocking?
Just use AE Blue to pay, get back price difference later.
So you can have the fastest cpu now, and 2 months later you won't have the phased out model.

Gustavo, the best buy for KT133 mb is the Athlon 950 - just few bucks more than 900.

Price may be a factor, I am having the same problem myself (want a fast athlon, not enuf $$), but i cant speak for gustavo.

You can find Athlon 1 GHz's for less than $100 these days though, so i think it'd be a better deal to get one of those instead of the 850's... wow those sound antiquated now.

I was concerned about heat generation, I don´t want to lose my processor burnt
so I thought the duron 900 would run a lot cooler than the athlon 850.
Am I right in this case ??

I am really scared about heat generation and dissipation on the AMD line !!.

Yes the Duron will run a bit cooler & just as fast as a 850 Athlon.

dont worry about the heat! just make sure you get a cooler that is designed to go up to your CPU speed and you'll be set. I would'nt go for anything lower than 1ghz because it sounds better than 850mhz, and the price difference is negligable.
