TBIRD, KT7, and ISA....

I am planning on building my new computer this weekend...

I want to use an Abit KT7 and Tbird 1ghz... The reason for this is that I still use my old ISA USR Sportster Hardware Modem. That is the reason for choosing the KT7, because it comes with 1 ISA slot.

Is this a good idea? If not, please tell me why. Should I use an external modem? All information is appreciated.

what sort of V specification does that modem have?
a V90 or V92(if your ISP supports it) modem would be the ideal if you don't have cable or ADSL!

The modem was originally an X2, I flashed it to V90 standard. I've been using this modem for a long time with no problems at all. I just switched ISP's, I've always connected at maximum rates. On my old ISP, connection wa 53,333 everytime. I've gotten just as good of connections on my new ISP.

Maybe I'm sentimental, I've had this modem for 4-5 years. Cable and DSL are not an option at this time. It just seems silly to dump this modem.

I noticed the KT7 and the KT7A boards both have a single ISA slot. I guess I have 2 questions.

Will I have any problems using this ISA modem with a KT7/TBird Setup?

Is there any advantage to getting the Asus boards,(with no ISA slot)?

You should have no problems at all with that setup. I recently did the same thing, bought the KT7 and a T-Bird and still use my Supra Express HW modem because I have no broadband available in my area yet. One of the determining factors for buying the KT7 was the fact that it still came with one ISA slot (and of course because it is so overclocker-friendly). I don't think that I would have had a problem running a winmodem with the T-Bird clocked to 1Ghz, but I really like my old modem and preferred to keep it.

About the only thing you will need to do is make sure that you set the Modem IRQ to Legacy ISA Device in the BIOS PCI/PnP setup. You will also need to disable whichever mobo COMM port that your modem uses.

BTW, there lots of good KT133A mobos out there, some have ISA slots. ABITS poor attention to quality control is the reason I will NEVER use their mobos.
