Hey guys.

I have a Tbird 750@1100@1.85v on an Abit KT7-Raid. I can't use motherboard monitor, because I don't have the HD in the box yet .. but looking at the BIOS temp readings I get 57C idle!

This is with Vantec HSF & Artic Silver (got it from PCNut).

What should I do? Is this way out of the ordinary?

Thanks.

I would try a different heatsink/fan. Probably the GlobalWin FOP32 since you can't get an Alpha anywhere. The ol' Vantec is probably not an good hs/fan for a overclocked T-Bird.

I would be happy with that cpu even posting at that speed...nice...just slap a bigger HSF on there dude.

It's not all that hot. Depends on a lot of things like the ambient temperature in your room, airflow in the case, if it runs cooler when not overclocked (if it's substantially lower then you probably need a more powerful heatsink/fan).

Your not near the temp. AMD said the max is. I wouldn't really worry.

My T-Bird ran between 127-131 degrees F (52 degrees C??), and everything seemed fine, but I couldn't stand it. So I downloaded CPUIdle, and it works like a charm. Now, when I'm cruising the internet or chatting, which is mostly what I do, the processor is hardly used, and the CPU temp hovers around 89 degrees F!! At one point, I caught it at 72F, and my case temp was 73F. It was kinda cold in my room though.

CPUIdle helped me out bigtime. I have a friend who questions my results, but I assure you they are legit. I had my processor lock up in Q3A, and after resetting the system and checking BIOS temp, it was at 138F. Mabye you can use this for a temp to try to keep away from.

Thermal Grease may not be a good idea, I have heard in many situations, where it has shown adversly,

a good hsf, is the Tai Sol, it cools to 1.2Ghz and works well for me, with my 900Mhz, i get temps around 36c idle, and it goes up to 38c while playing mp3s and browsing the net

I agree with StanFL, conditions can affect the temperature of the cpu and may I say it again temps are relative to the mobo/bios combo being used, different bios's different readings and also where the sensor actually is. If the wire is touching the core you will get good readings but if it's *cough* touching the heatsink the readings will not be very reliable. Just to give you an example, overclocers.com has a water cooling Duron vCore of 1.89 at 900 with 44C/111F idle and 48C/118F under load, so when people o/c and get 10c lower with stock heatsinks you eh... have to question it just a little. So 57c may seem a little hight but it's better to have reliable readings, and this seems right for what you have going it's not as if you have it at stock speed you know and Birds are known to run a little hotter. If your not freezing you should be ok.

I dunno, though, my Athlon 750 runs at around 105-114 and my box makes a great small space heater in my room during fall/winter.....
