If the T-breds are due out on June 10th as this thread says, then surely AMD should put out a list of current motherboards that support the T-bred processor. Or does AMD just expect everyone to buy a T-bred and try it out in their machine to see if it works or not? All I have heard is that a 45 amp output from the mobo voltage regulator is required; so does anyone know what their mobo voltage regulator is capable of putting out (amp wise)? I don't think so.

A price reduced, retail 2000+ today that is guaranted compatible with my current mobo is just as good as an unknown price for a 2200+ T-bred perhaps to be announced on June 10th and perhaps available as an OEM in stores on June 24th...at least IMO. I'll wait for the T-bred when the prices get cut after their first six weeks in stores and everyone else has posted their overclocking trials and troubles with various mobos.

I don't think it is AMD's job to track down and test every motherboard on the market for your convenience. Chances are your board will support the new chip since there are very few changes to the chip design infact only a die shrink and lower voltage
the most that you might need is a bios update
most anything that a palomino will run in a T-bred should run in also
if you are buying a bran new board chances are it comes with a new enough bios/revision to handle the T-bred if you own a board already just upgrade your bios to the latest one before plopping a T-bred in it
as for needing more power in anyway i havn't seen any confirmed reports on that if you have a link throw it down

hope this clears stuff up

I don't think that 45 amp thing will have a lot a impact. My bet is that it'd work on most all boards.

"When is it going to be available?"

I don't know, 3 months ago? Maybe 2003.

AMD has never proven reliable for release dates.

I guess you are talking about this comment that was posted at HardOCP?

Also PSU power was heavily touched on for the system builder present. It was stressed that over wattage rating for PSUs was not important, but rather the 5V rail is what to pay attention to. A minimum of 45AMPs will be required on the 5V rail due to TBred power consumption. The rail amperage rating should be printed on pretty much any PSU you find.

The general consensus is that this was some sort of misprint or mistake since there are very few power supplies that meet this requirement.

The Tbreds are out. But as since this is a new process the only ones they are making are the mobile ones. The New Tbred mobile chip is called the Athlon XP+, the old mobile chip is the Athlon 4.
To get the Athlon XP+ you would have to buy a HP or Compaq laptop, which they are about to use the new ATI chipset and toss the old VIA to the curb. The ATI chipset will have DDR, better video card, and have a very long battery life. Toms hardware already tested a early prtotype and it was either hanging with the Dell P4 or tearing it a new one. And it should not cost to much more than the Current Athlon Laptops from HP and/or Compaq.

The main reason behind this is, they want to make HP and Compaq happy, and the price on the mobile chip is sometimes twice what they get for a desktop chip. As soon as they have enough stock they will let the Tbred on the market. I think the new HP(with compaq) ordered 200K ati chipsets, so that would lead me to think that they also ordered at least 200K mobile Athlon XP+ (Tbred), that is why AMD is having a hard time getting the desktop model out.
I am thinking about getting a KT333 board and a new Trbed just so I can run the FSB at 166mhz.

Any day now...
I don't mind waiting a little longer if it allows AMD to bring up their bottom line.
