This is not a trash as I was actaully interested, if it worked

1) Tiger Direct ????
2) Free - - except for shipping
3) Read a couple reviews, they had nothing good to say about the 'WiFinder' One said it couldn't seem to find the barn door from 2 feet away

Good points though. OP, please add TD to the title. Many of us around here don't even open TD threads, especially with rebates.

Also, the point about bad reviews is correct. A guy at the office has one and it makes a nice paperweight. From what I can tell the Canary Wireless "Hotspotter" seems to bet the best on the market, albeit at $60 it should be.

I can put up TD rebates ( actually been good lately - problems in the past) BUT does it work!

I saw these a while ago at CompUSA. Do they work? I was wondering if it simply detects RFI in that frequency range, or if it actually has an 802.11 chip in it, and can decode if there is a "valid" WiFi access signal.

I have the exact same one.

Pro: None.

Con:
1. Too big for keys and jeans pocket, I broke the plastic ring after couple months.
2. It seems that it detects only unencrypted network, it does make sense though.
3. The range seems to be very small or it doesn't detect encrypted network. My thinkpad detected several networks but this thing said none.
4. Somehow, I don't recall this thing ever tell me that there are wifi networks available anywhere during my couple months of usage.
5. POS.
6. The LEDs are too dark, there is no way to see them flashing during daytime unless you use your hand to cover them and see them under the table. Don't expect to see them flashing when you are driving unless it's at night.


Conclusion: I won't pay 1 penny for it, specially not $0.37 to send the rebate, don't even mention the s/h.
