At BestBuy of Wilmington Delaware (Kirkwood Highway store), a 100 pack of TDK certified 4x DVD+R media for only $189, or $1.89 a disk. 4x should be about 14 min or so for a DVD, pretty slick. NOT online, check locally with your BB before driving out.

If these "4x" are anything like the 5 pack of "4x" that I got from ComphUSSR, then you might want to stay FAR FAR away.
I got TDK "4x" that only write at 2.4x and that is all that DVDINFO says they are good for..
Just a word of caution
EDIT: BTW this is my experience and may differ with different drives, though mine is a NEC 1100A (AFAIK this is the same oem that is used by TDK for their burner..)

It's +R, not -R. Big difference. Having said that, I'd say this deal is warm.

If there's a microcenter around, u can get 10 pack of 4x verbatim dvd+r for $16.99. They are in the slim jewel cases with 9 4x dvd+r and 1 2x dvd+rw. I believe this sale is until June 01.

I saw these yesterday at the store in National City. Same price goes for the DVD-R media as well.

Is DVD media more difficult to produce than CDR media or something? When the ridiculous price of media drops, I'll buy a DVD burner.

~ $1.89 for a 4.3GB media that you can burn in 15 minutes is NOT a bad deal.

2x media often goes for < $1.00.

The amount of information the media can hold is irrelevant. This isn't flash memory. If the cost of producing CDRs and DVDRs is equal, people are getting fleeced, hence my question.

actually it does cost more to produce dvd's than cd's. The equipment used to make these is new and more expensive. The volume isn't there so they can't mass produce them nearly as fast as cd's and the materials used to make them have to be better quality and because they are also not as massly produce are more expensive.

Edit: Damn that is a horrible runnon sentence, sorry.

That said, this would be a much better deal if it were a smaller pack. $189 is just too much to commit to an item that will cost 25% as much by the time you get half way through using what you have. I have been buying my disks as needed, because each time they cost a little less.

There was a post about this deal a while ago. Price hasn?t changed for at least a month. Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with this? Does anyone know of any better deals out there? DVD+R's are sure hard to find for a good price.

Also, aldamon, there is a price difference between dvdrs and cdrs. Its not a manufacturing price difference, it has to do with the amount of dvdrs they sell compared to cdrs and the distribution costs. There is always a base cost associated with any product and the more that product is produced, the more diluted that base cost becomes. Basics of supply and demand/economics you should have learned in high school...

Usually, it depends on the quality of your drive and/or discs. Most newer drives will read them though.

You guys crack me up. Supply and demand? I really doubt there's a worldwide shortage of these discs. Enjoy.

Yes, folks are definately getting fleeced. I well remember paying $7 for blank 1x CD's, but times have changed. The manufacturers have to make back their setup costs for the new equipment, but most have already done so. Now it's simple greed holding prices outrageously high.
